Description

Job Overview:

The Transitional Kindergarten (TK-A) Assistant Teacher will assist the TK-Teacher and support a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 4 to 5 years old, focusing on bridging the gap between preschool and kindergarten. They will assist in fundamental academic and social skills to prepare them for a smooth transition into kindergarten. The assistant teacher will assist in creating engaging lessons that cater to individual needs, assessing progress regularly.

Responsibilities and Duties: these are not written to be all inclusive and not limited to

  • Assists with creating, adapting, and implementing age-appropriate learning tools and curriculum 
  • Collaborates with Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers to assist and support the TK Teacher in adapting their learning tools and curriculum that bridges the gap between the programs 
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate classroom order and instruction 
  • Assist students with developing emotional/social skills, embracing their evolving identity, and recognizing their individual worth 
  • Participate in parent-teacher and student conferences  
  • Attend school chapel, committees, meetings, and other internal school functions. 
  • Participate in and support Back to School Nights, Open Houses, graduation and admissions events as scheduled on weekdays and weekends 
  • Chaperone student field trips; some overnight 
  • Engage in ongoing professional development experiences, including out of the area opportunities, throughout the calendar year (including summer) as directed and supported by the administration  
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • At least 12 Early Childhood Education units or child development units from accredited college and possess/obtain a CA Child Development Permit 
  • Prefer Bachelor's in Education, Early Childhood or Child Development 
  • Experience in teaching Pre-K and/or Kindergarten students in a classroom environment 
  • Eligibility to work in the USA; we are unable to provide sponsorship 
  • Pass background check and provide negative TB test  
  • Current Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid & CPR certifications or able to attain within the first 2 months of employment

  • Apple/Mac and iOS environment with laptop and similar devices, and accessories

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to visually monitor the room and students
  • Prolong standing up to and above 80% of time. Includes sitting, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Climb stairs and navigate sloping terrain
  • Ability to move equipment/boxes and ability to lift up to 25lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Navigate 10 acres of land with multi surfaces, multi-level with transitions
  • Surfaces including wood, linoleum, grass, concrete, dirt, gravel.
  • Sustain loud noises for a minimum of 50% of time depending on activities
  • Sustain indoor artificial lighting for 80% of time or higher depending on activities, backlit monitors
  • Able to handle outdoor weather including bright sun to rain, and temperature from cold to hot
