Job Description

The position includes duties as classroom teacher instructing students in a variety of art techniques and concepts including drawing, painting and textiles. Visual Art curriculum owner and active contributor to the overall growth of students and the school. Will perform all other day-to-day duties as a full-time faculty member at Incarnate Word Academy.


Schedule 

7:30 – 3:45 Monday to Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate a mastery in teaching fine art skills, specifically in drawing, painting and textiles
  • Provides instruction to students in traditional art mediums, mixed mediums, and aesthetic and conceptual decision-making
  • Instruct students through critical analysis to make qualitative and historically relevant judgments about art
  • Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding and prepare student feedback
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community and in local art competitions
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of artistic proficiency
  • Teach five classes in a rotating block schedule in the Visual Arts program
  • Create lesson plans aligned with current trends and best practices, which drive instruction through formative assessment 
  • Maintain a safe, organized, positive studio that supports student-centered independent learning, collaboration, and choice while incorporating mutual respect
  • Encourage student participation in external exhibitions, competitions, and opportunities for young artists
  • Use technology/instructional media to enhance student learning experience in a digital format

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a four-year B.A./B.F.A. degree in a field of study in or related to the visual arts
  • Teaching certificate or twelve credit hours in education courses preferred
  • Experience teaching in an independent school and/or an all-girls environment is a plus 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic technology needed for teaching, learning, and communication 
  • Professional attitude, behavior, and appearance
