Harbor’s Edge is a premier resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 33-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 15-bed Memory Support Unit. 


The Safety & Security Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all operations of security for the facility, including supervising the security staff and contractors in support of the Safety & Security Manager. The supervisor also oversees and participates in the first response to the activation of the emergency call system within the Independent Living sections of the community. This position is considered Essential Personnel and must be available prior, during and after inclement weather situations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all security policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Schedule and supervise security staff and outside contractors. Train staff on systems and procedures, assign duties, and evaluate performance.
  • Conduct regular and random security rounds inside and outside of the facility to ensure the safety and security of the building, grounds, employees, guests, vendors, and residents. This includes checking that certain equipment is in working order.
  • Address equipment malfunctions (security, fire, alarm, etc.) and coordinate any repairs with outside contractors. Address issues with Fire alarm systems and coordinate maintenance and repair.
  • Facilitate meetings with shift supervisors, managers, and other officers to determine operational needs, communicate new security policies and procedures and shift reporting.
  • Respond promptly to security/fire alarms, emergency call system activation, and any perceived threat to facility or individual security. Follow established procedures for contacting appropriate authorities, assisting residents and staff, etc., assisting nursing staff in emergency calls as needed.
  • Report any suspicious incidents to management immediately, completing all required documentation by close of business on the day of the occurrence.
  • Identify potential safety and security risks and respond appropriately; investigate in-house incidents, allegations, and complaints related to Security and maintain logs of all safety code inspections.
  • Ensure Security staff is trained and following guidelines of ensuring all employees and visitors to the Community, have proper credentials for accessing buildings and parking lots.
  • Ensures Security staff responds promptly to all emergencies, fire alarms, and any perceived threat to the facility or individuals as well as responds promptly to the emergency call system activation. Ensures staff follow established procedures and training to contact appropriate authorities and nursing staff, as needed and/or external emergency services.
  •  Conduct monthly in-service training on fire alarm procedures for Healthcare, Assisted Living and Security Staff (all shifts).
  •  Functions as Key Personnel until Fire Department or Management Team members arrive in an after-hours emergency.
  •  Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least 4 years of related work experience; 2 Years supervisor experience
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License with no restrictions
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • DCJS Armed Certification required.
  • Knowledge and skills in emergency medical techniques necessary to act as first responder to emergencies within the Community.
  • Knowledge of security protocols, procedures, environments, hazards, and equipment
  • Skilled in good negotiation tactics and problem-solving techniques.
  • Skilled knowledge of Microsoft Office and report writing
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective time management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service oriented
  • Ability to report to work as scheduled and follow approved schedule.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to work with customers in a courteous manner, demonstrating patience, compassion, and integrity.
