Job Purpose
The Development Manager will lead Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) negotiations for Longroad Energy’s utility-scale solar and storage portfolios in CAISO and Arizona. In addition, the role will support overall project development activities for Longroad’s California and Arizona projects. Ideal person will be commutable distance to the SF Corporate office.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage PPA negotiation process for Longroad’s CAISO and Arizona projects from proposal development, through initial term sheet stage to contract execution.
- Act as single point of contact for PPA counterparty during negotiation, including leading all commercial discussions and facilitating resolution of all issues that arise during negotiation.
- Work with cross-functional internal and external stakeholders (e.g., development, interconnection, finance, engineering, construction, battery energy storage, operations, asset management, insurance, legal) to develop negotiation strategy and views on commercial “nice to haves” vs. “must haves.”
- Track market trends and uncertainties; for new issues, coordinate risk review and recommend approach for addressing in contract (recent examples include tariff uncertainty, change in tax law, property tax exclusion uncertainty, scope reporting, ultra long-lead CODs).
- With support of Longroad internal counsel, lead coordination with outside counsel supporting PPA negotiation and drafting.
- Build and foster relationships with key power buyers (utilities, CCAs, corporates).
- Prepare marketing materials and initiate bilateral discussions about offtake opportunities with potential buyers.
- For early-stage projects, devise project-specific origination approach based on market needs, mandates, and projects’ characteristics, and track applicable opportunities.
- Support the preparation of bids to be submitted into Requests for Proposals.
- Support the California and Arizona development team on internal processes including preparation of materials for Longroad Investment Committee and Board of Directors, project budget updates, risk registers, and pipeline trackers.
- Support ongoing development activities on Longroad’s California and Arizona portfolio as needed to advance projects and achieve critical milestones; activities may be related to real estate, permitting, community relations, interconnection, or other topics. The development aspects of the role can be tailored to the appropriate candidate’s background and interests.
Required Qualifications
- Three years’ experience working in energy markets or renewable project finance finance, or five years’ experience working on utility-scale renewable energy projects generally.
- Familiarity with key concepts in renewable project PPAs.
- Partnership mindset.
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to read and understand legal documents and contracts.
- Organized and detail oriented, but doesn’t lose sight of the big picture.
- Experience coordinating with a cross-functional team of experts on complex projects.
- Ability to travel to meet with customers.
- Safe driving record, valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- California residence strongly preferred, local relationships a plus.
- Experience managing solar, wind, or battery PPA negotiations from bid stage through execution.
- Experience evaluating quantitative implications of PPA provisions including curtailment, LMP basis, battery charging restrictions, and real-time versus day-ahead bidding strategies.
- Familiarity with Western U.S. energy markets, CAISO system and processes (deliverability, MIC), CPUC procurement rules, and common energy transaction structures.

Other
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. The Company does not sponsor applicants for work visas.
Salary/Compensation
The salary range is between $140k-150k. In addition to base salary, this role includes a bonus. The position offers health, vision/dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, accrued paid time off, life insurance and disability coverage.
