Job Summary

The Manager, Donor Communications (MDC) is responsible for managing and building strong, ministry-oriented relationships with Hope Media Group’s (HMG) donor communities across all brands through direct mail campaigns and communication initiatives including annual giving invitations, updates on the impact of their gifts, ministry happenings, and other stewardship communications while helping donors fulfill their philanthropic passions and interests in the ministry of HMG. The MDC is attentive to donor’s spiritual needs. The MDC prays with donors as needed.


Essential Functions

Strategic Planning & Program Leadership:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of donor communications strategies, with a focus on department and ministry revenue and retention goals.
  • Assist with the quarterly and annual donor communications team goals, timelines, budgets, communication, results tracking, and celebration. 
  • Collaborate closely with other departments such as Donor Operations, Donor Acquisition, Digital, Marketing, and Programming as merited. 
  • Engage the Sr. Director of Donor Communications on donor communication issues, trends, and proposals.

Donor Communications:

  • Manage all donor engagement related mass communications for each brand of HMG including stewardship, direct appeal, annual giving statements, and surveys. 
  • Manage all aspects of donor communication plan activities such as creating and establishing annual and project specific master timelines; management of concept, graphics, and content through all approval phases to ensure brand consistency, integrity, and accuracy of messaging; and ensuring production and drop date deadlines are met.
  • Manage relationship with external consulting group and email marketing team.  
  • Distribute project summaries, including outcomes and ROI’s. 
  • Proofread, edit, and author as needed; provide quality assurance. 
  • Consistent adherence to brand voice and style.
  • Translate learnings from segment testing and analytics into creative plans and solutions to increase donor retention and escalation. Provide consistent reporting on progress to goals. 
  • Collaborate closely with Donor Engagement team members, collecting donor stories and testimonials to demonstrate how donor/partner support impacts the Kingdom through Hope Media Group’s brands. 
  • Manage project to approved budgets, review and approve vendor invoices, and negotiate fees and charges.
  • Build and manage appropriate internal review processes for communications pieces.
  • Oversee print management including establishing and maintaining working relationships with the printer of choice, specialty printers, email, and telemarketing vendors through all phases of print. 
  • Coordinate internal teams to properly code data ensuring detailed, accurate, and meaningful output and reporting.
  • Coordinate and make recommendations regarding delivery tools such as paper forms, postage, printer, mail house, email delivery, telemarketing.

Demonstrated Faith:

  • Pray for coworkers in team meetings or with donors/listeners as needed 
  • Participate in Support Drives as needed 
  • Participate in ministry wide Christian bible studies
  • Attend weekly Hope Huddle and team meetings for prayer and devotions 
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. Maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of the organization

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Other responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of HMG

Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising communications for non-profit organizations (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Heart for Christian ministry
  • Strong moral character
  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Spiritually grounded and working knowledge of scripture
  • Must be an active member of a Bible believing local church
  • Demonstrated, proven written communication skills including strong proofreading, copyediting, spelling, grammar, adaptive writing skills. Creative writing skills also preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic donor communication campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of the donor mindset and heart with the ability to translate this into impactful, on-mission communications.
  • Prioritizes and task-switches with a fluctuating workload and competing priorities
  • Organizes and manages time with frequent interruptions
  • Takes initiative, works independently, and collaborates with team members
  • Ministry minded self-starter who learns quickly
  • Shows initiative and consistently hungers for continuous improvement

  • Able to process analytically and think strategically regarding managing communications across multiple brands. 
  • Demonstrates strong moral, ethical and relational skills

  • Sound understanding of the theology of fundraising and fundraising ethics
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel & Teams and donor relationship management software's. Ability to be trained on Virtuous CRM, Raise Donors, MailChimp, and other platforms.

Working Conditions and Environment

Travel:

  • Occasional travel to Nashville or Houston as needed

Nights/Weekends/Holidays:

  • Occasional for conferences or retreats.
