Grounds Maintenance Technician

Description

This is a full-time, 8-9 month, job attached, benefit eligible position that reports directly to the Grounds Superintendent. The position is non-exempt, hourly.  Performs ground maintenance and repair duties necessary to maintain campus grounds in exceptional condition. Includes turfgrass maintenance, including operation of large grounds equipment and basic small machinery.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs grounds maintenance including mowing grass, grass trimming, plant material and tree pruning using hand tools and power tools such as driven lawn mower, weed trimmer and chainsaw.
  • Incorporates trees, shrubs, or flowers according to instructions and planned design of the landscaped area.
  • Operates power equipment such as, but not limited to, ride-on mowers, chippers, power sprayer, aerial-lift truck, aerators, edger, hedge trimmers, chain saws, and tractor/loaders as necessary. 
  • Remove trash and debris from grounds.
  • Cleans equipment and performs regular equipment checks to keep equipment operating properly.
  • Cleans work areas.
  • Assist with field painting for multiple sports.
  • Campus snow plowing and removal.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve campus appearance.
  • Uses all tools and equipment according to safety policies.
  • Participate in training opportunities as requested.
  • Assist with facility set-ups for meetings and other school functions as requested.
  • Work successfully with ground team members to achieve department goals.
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record must meet standards.
  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance (2-3) years and knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to landscape maintenance  
  • Basic Irrigation valve, head and pipe fitting practices.
  • Ability to climb and work from heights such as from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. 
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy lifting. Requires the ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.

The pay for this position is  $21.00 - $23.00 per hour. Although this is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any wage differential that may exist for the position does not relate to sex, gender or gender identity, but relates solely to a seniority system, a merit system, or relevant education, training and/or experience. Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance benefit programs are available, as is a 403(b) retirement plan. Eligibility for all benefit programs is defined by the applicable plan document.
