Overall Responsibilities
Responsible for a wide range of activities related to monitoring employee performance, ensuring all work is complete and accurate based on the time frame, and providing a high level of customer service by performing the following duties. The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for developing a highly effective team of employees and developing each employee to their highest potential through coaching and leadership. In addition, the Manager must ensure that outstanding service is delivered to both internal and external customers. To accomplish these goals the QA Manager must develop, organize and supervise applications of the comprehensive quality and food safety programs. The manager will also formulate quality policies and programs and provide guidance and feedback to production. These programs will be designed to meet operational plans, customer expectations and regulatory governances.
Knowledge of business and management principles, Supervisory and leadership skills, Extensive knowledge of the FDA Code of Federal Regulations [CFR 21 Part 111], Familiarity with regulatory compliance in the Food and Drug Industry, Strong computer Literacy.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises more than 10 employees in the Quality Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
- Data Quality Management System (DQMS)
- To establish and define roles, responsibilities, policies and procedures concerning the acquisition, maintenance, dissemination and disposition of data in within the Quality Assurance Department.
- To coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
- To develop a set of internal processes and best practices that guarantee that good, reliable data is created and maintained through its flow in the supply chain
- To maintain current records of all QA data which include current product and ingredient
- Specifications and vendor qualifications as product specification sheets [MSDS, COA, Formulas etc].
- To monitor and update the Quality Management and food safety programs in conjunction with other departments to meet company and regulatory objectives [ QC Testing guidelines, GMPs, CAPA, SOPs,
- Inspection & reporting framework, etc].
- Develop and implement tracking programs to monitor progress of departmental goals and provided trend analysis to management [i.e. Project Pipeline, Project list, etc]
- Develop policies, procedures and systems for the management of 3rd party audits
- To take responsibility in ensuring that QA Personnel abide by department standards and guidelines
- To convey information, ideas and Quality policy to all levels within the organization.
- To inspire and motivate the QA Team as well as making sure employees are trained, understand and follow company GMPs and food safety practices
- Implement employee monitoring and testing procedures to measure and validate progress of
- Individual employees [monthly evaluation].
Regulatory Compliance
- To understand and reference the FDA 21 CFR Part 111 for specific regulation of dietary supplements, Food Division.
- To Review and verify all projects submitted by the QA Supervisors and QA Leads for validity and accuracy
- To supervise, host, or conduct internal and external audits to ensure contract facilities abide by department policies.
- To direct the tracking of defects, test results, or other regularly reported quality control data.
- To identify critical control points in the manufacturing process and specify sampling procedures to be used at these points.
- To produce reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, daily production quality, root cause analyses, or quality trends.
- To Document, investigate and respond to customer complaints.
Regulatory Agency Communication
- To assist in all communication and coordination of activities with all regulatory agencies including FDA, USDA, USP and NSF etc.
- To assist in requested documents to regulatory agencies who request them
- To assist in the appropriate regulatory agencies for inquiries on compliance laws and guidelines otherwise not known
Interdepartmental Tasks
- To attend regular meetings with the QA department to ensure good practice, supported by cooperative
- relationships and effective communication
- To attend regular meetings with upper Management and Directive Personnel and provide any information requested
- To serve as a liaison with staff and management concerning error trends and problem areas.
- To attend industry conferences, trainings and expositions and obtain pertinent information necessary for the continual development of the QA Department.
- To assist with vendors, contract facilities and other external companies regarding Quality Assurance.
Education / Experience
Master’s degree (M.A./M.S.) from four-year college or university; minimum five years direct experience, minimum five years in a managerial role and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificate in Good Manufacturing Practice
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, inventory software, order processing software, project management software, and manufacturing software.
