Description

  

We are seeking a proactive and initiative-taking Sr. Director of Data Science and Engineering to lead our data initiatives, drive innovation, and oversee the development and deployment of data solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Databricks, ETL processes, SQL Server, cloud platforms, and Generative AI technologies. This role is responsible for leading a high-performing data team and delivering scalable, data-driven solutions. The Director will make strategic decisions on the ELT process, be a thought partner to the Head of Data and CIO, and lead disciplined client data implementations.


Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and manage the Data Science and Engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

- Design, develop, and implement scalable ETL pipelines and data integration solutions.

- Architect and maintain robust data infrastructures using cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud as well as work to migrate legacy, on-premise infrastructure.

- Utilize Databricks for big data processing, machine learning model development, and data analytics.

- Leverage Generative AI technologies to create advanced data solutions and drive business value.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs, provide insights, and support decision-making processes.

- Develop and implement data governance standards and best practices.

- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data engineering, data science, cloud computing, and AI technologies.

- Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of data systems.

2. Strategic Decision Making:

- Guide the data engineering team from ad hoc, brittle operations to scalable, systematic processes and make strategic decisions to strengthen the team’s capabilities.

- Oversee the implementation of data engineering products, ensuring they align with company operations and objectives.

- Ensure the Company’s data-related functions, including data management, data quality, and data strategy, are aligned with the broader Company strategy and direction.

3. Collaboration and Thought Leadership:

- Serve as a thought partner to the Head of Data and CIO, aligning data strategies with broader IT and organizational goals.

- Understand the organization's strategy and direction to collaborate with stakeholders to integrate VBC and health plan data insights into organizational decision-making.

4. Client Implementation and Relationship Management: 

- Lead client data implementation projects, focusing on health plan data integration and VBC alignment.

- Develop and maintain strong client relationships—both internal and external—ensuring their needs are met.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Over 8 years of experience in data engineering and data science roles, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proficient in Databricks, ETL tools and processes, SQL Server, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI models and frameworks.
  • Expert level proficiency in SQL
  • Strong programming skills in Python or demonstration of aptitude in other programming languages.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, decision-making, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the healthcare industry, notably health plan operations and VBC.
  • Certification in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Experience with big data tools like Apache Spark (Spark SQL and PySpark), modern table formats like Delta Lake and Iceberg, as well as streaming data sources such as Apache Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, AWS Kinesis, and GCP Pub/Sub.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Knowledge of data application frameworks such as Plotly Dash and Streamlit

 Base Salary/ Wage Range $185,000 to $200,000 plus annual bonus. Compensation for the role is commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
