Permanent Substitute Teacher

SUMMARY


The Permanent Substitute Teacher supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is  unable to lead class. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting  lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students' permanent teacher of their progress.  When not needed in the classroom, the Permanent Substitute could be asked to perform other  duties at the school including office/clerical work or student supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in an order of importance. the omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. 


  • Responds promptly to cell phone, text, or email communications from the Dean of Students regarding their availability for substitute assignments. 
  • Reports to the Dean’s office on the day of the assignment no later than 7:20 AM or at the time designated by the Dean. Parks in the faculty parking spot designated by the Dean. 
  • Schedule, lesson plans and key(s) for the substitute assignment. Checks out BMCHS laptop as necessary for attendance reporting and reports to the designated classroom. 
  • Conduct homeroom activities as necessary including attendance, prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Other duties may include fundraising and record-keeping. 
  • Substitute teacher follows the instructions in the lesson plans and collects student assignments as directed. Substitute teacher administers tests and quizzes and maintains classroom order. 
  • Substitute teachers adhere to BMCHS Faculty and Student Handbook policies and procedures.

  • Adheres to BMC Faculty and Student Handbook policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the Dean’s office during planning periods or free periods. 
  • Performs campus duties that are assigned to the teacher they are replacing. 
  • Monitors student behavior and appearance and write any Uniform Violation Notices or Referrals as necessary. 
  • Attends Liturgies or Campus-wide gatherings as directed. 
  • Stays in the designated classroom at the end of the day until all the students have finished at their lockers. They will lock the door and return the key(s) and laptop to the Dean’s office.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must successfully pass Diocesan Safe Environment Training and Background Screening process. 
  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • Preference given to candidates with a degree and/or training in education or related field
