Job Summary:
The School Bus Driver interacts daily with children and safely transports students to and from campuses and designated locations. This also includes driving other school vehicles as needed. The School Bus Driver must have a clean driving record, no traffic or criminal violations, and a calm yet authoritative demeanor with a strong understanding of traffic laws. The bus driver must be a professing and maturing Christian enthusiastically supporting Valley Christian’s Statement of Faith and mission statements.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Transport children and other passengers to and from school
- Responsible for driving a variety of school vehicles
- Obey all traffic laws
- Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
- Ensure the safety of all students
- Verify permissions for children who ride home with friends
- Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed
- Discipline children as needed to maintain a safe environment
- Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
- Attend safety meetings as required
- Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
- Performs other related assigned duties
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others

- Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school’s Mission & Beliefs.
- Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona commercial class B driver license
- Must have and maintain a valid DOT physical card
- Minimum of one year school bus driving experience
- Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
- Ability to carry out assigned route on time
- Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Must have current CPR certification or willingness to obtain
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Two or more years working with children
Physical Requirements:
- Sit for long periods of time while driving
- Requires, stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing
- Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects
- Use of hands, fingers, feet, and arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects quickly
- Move two or more limbs together while remaining in place
- Visual - See details of objects that are more than a few feet away, determine distance between objects
- Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them
- Make quick, precise adjustment to automotive controls
- Work in noisy and crowded school environment
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations
- Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 50 pounds in case of emergency
- Repeat the same movements
- Use a computer (visual and keyboarding)
- Work in a varied of outdoor climates and temperature
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
