JOB TITLE: Lead Teacher 

REPORTS TO: CDC Director

LOCATION: W. L. Hutcherson Family Y

FLSA TYPE: Full-time, non-exempt


JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the CDC Director, the Lead Teacher is responsible for meeting the developmental needs of children birth through six years of age in a group setting. Directs classroom teachers, assistant teacher, practicum students, and volunteers to meet program standards as well as Tulsa/County Health Department and the Federal School Lunch licensing regulations. Childcare has special demands in that we care for children that in many instances cannot care for themselves. It is critical that the Lead Teacher be mentally and physically fit to perform the duties outlined in this job description.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Develop a daily schedule that provides a balance of active and quiet activities, individual and group times.
  • Monitor children’s developmental progress through observation records, checklists, daily reports and portfolios. 
  • Maintain positive, open relations with all families, partnership agencies, and program staff. 
  • Address and greet parents by name upon arrival and departure. 
  • Reinforce daily to parent and child the successes and positive behaviors exhibited.
  • Communicate all concerns and provide written documentation of all concerns to Director. 
  • Facilitate all classroom activities, participate, model, and observe as necessary.
  • Manage all classroom supplies and equipment in a safe and organized manner. 
  • Maintain the classroom environment to support smooth transitions and independent learning of children. 
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) preferred with emphasis in Early Childhood Education or equivalent; Associate’s degree with emphasis on Early Childhood education and working towards bachelor's degree.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Strong human relation skills & organizational skills
  • Minimum 6 months experience as a lead teach in a preschool, or equivalent
  • Excellent spoken and written English to serve as a role model, Spanish also preferred
  • Meet DHS & Health Department guidelines for staff
  • Knowledgeable in Teaching Strategies GOLD and Early Childhood Guidelines 


Salary Description
$18.50-$22.00 an hour
