Manufacturing Engineer Level III
Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the development of the processes, tooling, and equipment to support manufacturing of product as well as providing technical assistance and implementation of lean manufacturing principles in a production environment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1) Drive Continuous Improvement as a leader and team member; work with production employees to help implement improvement projects and ideas. 

2) Establish annual tactical plans that include no cost, low cost, and capital improvement projects. Provide return on investment (ROI) data to support projects. 

3) Develop manufacturing processes for New Product Introduction (NPI), documenting process changes, driving process / fixture improvements, driving lead and cycle time improvements, cost of quality (COQ), and Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) actions. This includes specifying equipment, tooling and fixtures for new processes and process changes. 

4) Evaluate and develop manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; studying product requirements; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; researching, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors; and soliciting observations from operators. 

5) Address technical issues through problem-solving framework with a focus on root-cause, containment, and long-term solutions. 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

6) Participate in LEAN initiatives that improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout. 

7) Plans projects and tracks schedules for complex projects and new product/process launches. 

8) Assist maintenance in technical issues in keeping equipment operational (e.g., programming, etc.). 

9) Maintain a safe and orderly work environment. 

10) Adhere to all Company policies and procedures. 

11) Follow all procedures as they pertain to this position. 

12) Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities. This is a full-time position; days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Regular onsite attendance is expected and required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (R) = Required (P) = Preferred (Equivalent combinations will be considered)

(R) Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related engineering field. 

(R) 5+ years of practical experience in a manufacturing environment. 

(R) 1+ years of experience in composites manufacturing (carbon fiber a plus). 

(P) Familiarity with new product development and conversion to make products manufacturable. 

(R) Has project planning and management experience. 

(R) Understands process control management principles and statistical process control methods. 

(P) Knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment. 

(R) Proficiency with Microsoft Office program skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 

(R) Ability to use a computer/tablet/keyboard. 

(R) Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and high-standard technical documentation. 

(P) Mechanical proficiency with bikes and/or bike industry, including knowledge of bicycle and cycling components and styles including rims, wheels, hubs, spokes, nipples, and bike. 

(P) Practical experience with lean manufacturing and implementation. 

(P) Outdoor industry experience.

  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to teach and mentor others in these techniques. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to analyze problems, identify root causes and provide efficient solutions.

PHYSICAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work in both an office and loud manufacturing environment as needed, including exposure to loud noises, dust, and machinery. 
  • Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time, walking, climbing, bending, grasping, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position. 
  • Regularly required to talk and hear. 
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment and see details of objects that are less than a few feet away. 
  • Must be able to safely lift tools and assemblies weighing up to 40 lbs. 
  • Ability to travel by car and/or air if necessary.
