Summer Camp Counselor (Center Grove)
Description

Position Overview: 

A Camp Counselor supports and works alongside other camp counselors in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children in grades K-6. This role focuses on assisting with daily activities, providing hands-on support to campers, and helping manage group dynamics under the guidance of the Camp Director. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, dependable, and enjoys working with children in a camp setting. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Program Support: 
  • Implement age-appropriate activities, including arts & crafts, active games, and group events. 
  • Actively participate in all camp activities, providing guidance and encouragement to campers. 
  • Camper Supervision: 
  • Supervise groups of children during activities, meals, field trips, and transitions, ensuring their safety and well-being. 
  • Support and lead with a team of counselors in maintaining a positive group environment and managing camper behavior using appropriate strategies. 
  • Promote teamwork, respect, and inclusion among all campers. 
  • Team Collaboration: 
  • Communicate regularly with the Lead Teacher and Summer Camp Manager regarding camper progress, behavior concerns, and daily activities. 
  • Work collaboratively with fellow camp staff to ensure smooth daily operations and consistency in camp programming. 
  • Administrative Assistance: 
  • Take attendance and assist with maintaining accurate camp attendance. 
  • Help with setting up and cleaning up activity areas and ensuring supplies are organized. 
  • Assist with incident reports and follow camp policies and safety guidelines. 
  • Field Trips
  • Attend field trips and ensure safety for all campers. 
  • Be aware of all policies and procedures during trips.
  • Wear appropriate attire to participate in activity with campers.

Work Schedule: 

  • Camp is open from 7am-6pm ever day; shifts vary based on experience and availability. 
  • Typical hours: AM or PM small shifts; Full day 8 hours; or half day 4 hours
  • Preferred: consistent hours and days each week so that students feel safe and confident with each counselor

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities. 
  • Capability to stand, walk, run, bend, lift up to 30 lbs, and assist in basic first aid if necessary. 
Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with children in a camp, school, or before/after school setting preferred. 
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and a supportive, positive attitude. 
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
