  Georgia Legal Services Program’s (“GLSP”) mission is to provide civil legal services for Georgians with low incomes, creating equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty. The Kinship Care Project provides representation to relative caregivers in custody, guardianship, adoption, benefits, and other related legal matters. 


 Responsibilities:

1. Provide counsel and advice to family violence survivors through the Family Law Hotline on the holistic array of family law legal options available, including divorce, custody, visitation, child support, paternity-defense, legitimation, name changes, protective orders; financial benefits, housing, and educational legal assistance;

2. Provide civil legal representation to survivors of family violence, handling cases potentially in state, federal, and administrative forums as determined by the supervisor or Piedmont Managing attorney;

3. Refer clients as needed for immigration assistance, including T-Visas, U- Visas, and VAWA applications to partners, GAIN (Georgian Asylum and Immigration Network) or immigration resources/partners;

4. Refer clients as needed for other holistic services available, including safety planning, shelter, law enforcement assistance, victim assistance, counseling, benefits, and any other community services to assist in safety and economic security;

5. Maintain records and data on GLSP's case management system and for research, development, and project activity reporting purposes;

6. Help to recruit and support pro bono attorneys, in collaboration with the pro bono unit, to assist survivors with survivors legal needs;

7. Facilitate presentations to bar associations, attorneys and community partners promoting development of and participation in holistic civil legal services for survivors;

8. Attend statewide and national meetings and conferences as budgetary and grant requirements allow;

9. Support applications of technology to the delivery of legal services; participating in discussions and proposing policy recommendations on the use of technology to develop and expand access to civil legal services for survivors.

10. Provide multicultural outreach to survivors about Georgia Legal Services and the legal services available to them throughout Georgia.

11. Provide grant support regarding GLSP’s family law grants, including administrative assistance, drafting, monitoring and managing budgets, grant reporting, and grant attorney and staff supervisory support, as needed by the project manager.

 


Requirements

Graduate of an accredited law school and current member of Georgia Bar with experience working with persons with low incomes and a commitment to social justice.


· Willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner.


· Computer literacy, which includes familiarity using email, Excel, Word, SharePoint, LegalServer, and other computer programs.


· Must have reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license as travel is a part of this position.


· Ability to speak Spanish is highly valued.


· Demonstrated interest or experience working with low-income clients on poverty law issues and commitment to social justice;


· Ability to work with diverse populations, backgrounds and perspectives;


· Excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills;


· Attention to detail and self-motivated;


· Ability to be creative and a team player.


· Membership in the Georgia Bar



Salary and Benefits:


The salary is $65,000+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; birthday holiday; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible); 403B with 3% match; Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses. GLSP offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
