$17/hr. to $17.50/hr. and a Free YMCA Membership
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for summer camp specialty programming, family events, and group/event activities. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester are conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Coordinate all preparation and daily activities for summer camp specialty programming and all family events.
• Oversee and inspect weekly summer specialty camp curriculum.
• Responsible for assisting in hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling staff for all programs.
• Ensure a safe and fun environment for all participants.
• Be on site during daily camp hours of supervision.
• Keep accurate, detailed records of incident reports and other necessary documentation as required
• Familiar with and carries out emergency procedures, building rules and regulations.
• Assist with Annual Campaign planning and activities during camp season.
• Attend all required meetings and training.
• All other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 21 years old or older.
- Must have an interest, knowledge and skills in adventure programming outdoor education, environmental education, nature and outdoor living skills.
- Minimum three years’ experience.
- Must have the ability to teach and motivate participants of every age and interest.
- Should have a general understanding of YMCA and the goals and objectives of YMCA camping.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be team oriented and able to work independently in a fast paced environment and in all-weather elements.
- Must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
- Must have CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another.
- Ability to visibly observe children. • Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.
- Ability to stand and move around camp for an extended period of time.
- Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
