Machine Shop Supervisor
Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible to supervise employees in a machine shop environment. It is imperative that the Machine Shop Supervisor conducts themselves as a role model for the department demonstrating a strong emphasis on safety, quality, productivity, performance, attendance, and adherence to Company policy and rules. 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1) Lead daily operations of machining, ensuring safe, efficient production and proper tool maintenance. Schedule tasks and monitor machine operators to ensure optimal machine usage and quality standards.

2) Oversee material inventory, submit purchase orders based on production needs.

3) Monitor machine performance and resolve any bottlenecks or issues in production. Select appropriate tooling for CNC machines based on job requirements. Track departmental performance and suggest improvements in processes and equipment.

4) Collaborate with design and engineering teams to update and create standard operating procedures (SOPs).

5) Coordinate routine maintenance of machinery to ensure uptime and efficiency.

6) Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of department personnel.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

7) Provide leadership through coaching, training, and mentoring of staff, while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment and managing team performance.

8) Manage departmental metrics, provide regular progress reports to leadership.

9) Support continuous improvement efforts in production methods, safety, and quality.

10) Maintain a safe and orderly work environment.

11) Adhere and uphold all Company policies and procedures, including attendance, quality, and safety.

12) Follow all procedures as they pertain to this position.

13) Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This position supervises non-exempt machine shop staff. Regular onsite attendance is expected, with the potential for extended hours based on operational needs.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (R) = Required (P) = Preferred (Equivalent combinations will be considered)

(R) 4+ years of experience in a machining environment (CNC mills, lathes, and common shop machinery).

(R) Proficiency in MasterCAM programming and Microsoft Office.

(R) Experience in managing workflows and machine operations.

(R) Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and SOPs.

(R) Knowledge of manufacturing methods and safety standards. 

(P) Associates degree or related certifications (e.g., CNC Programmer, Machinist).

(P) 2+ years in a leadership role within a machining environment.

(P) Lean/continuous improvement knowledge.

(P) Bilingual in English/Spanish.

· Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

· Knowledge of safety management, equipment maintenance, and process optimization.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PHYSICAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

· Must be able to work in a loud environment.

· Requires standing for long periods of time, climbing, walking, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position.

· Must be able to lift boxes, tools and assemblies weighing up to 40 pounds frequently throughout the workday, and up to 60 lbs occasionally (typically a couple of times per day).
