The Social Work role serves as a primary Case Manager that plays a vital role in empowering youth (ages 10-18) to build brighter futures, free from violence. Through regular one-on-one meetings, they help each participant set meaningful goals, track progress, and celebrate achievements. But their impact goes beyond the individual—when appropriate, they engage family members and caretakers, fostering a supportive environment for lasting change.
Beyond direct support, this role actively connects with the community, conducting outreach both internally and externally to build trust with families and at-risk youth. They provide case management services, rooted in social work practice, in alignment with program requirements and leadership guidance, ensuring every participant receives the resources they need.
Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, compiling and distributing materials and reports, and responding to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders. Above all, they serve as advocates and mentors, dedicated to breaking cycles of violence and empowering youth to reach their full potential.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Serves as a Trauma-informed practitioner, providing outreach and case management for youth.
- Assists with assessing participants’ needs, situations, personal strengths, and support networks to work with youth and determine appropriate goals
- Coordinates with appropriate organizations and services including, but not limited to, social services, physical and mental health services, housing support, employment education and substance use disorder treatment
- Attends site and/or in-service meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
- Assists with participant outreach by preparing and distributing outreach material, making presentations, phone calls, and scheduling community meetings
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents/reports, files, and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements. This may include participant information.
- Monitors and tracks milestones such as, employment acquisition, and/or educational progress
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. schools, partners, government agencies, general public, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction
- Meets with youth and families in compliance with program requirements, researches and refers participants to community resources
- Tracks youth participation in positive activities and provides supports to engage youth in these activities
- Responsible for all tasks related to holding case management meetings with youth and families
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications for the Ideal Candidate
- Education Level: Master of Social Work (MSW) required from an accredited institution.
- Minimum two years of increasingly responsible experience working with high-risk youth (ages 10-18) populations, particularly those in areas with high rates of violence.
- Work with youth in a trauma-informed environment (training available to strengthen these skills)
- Organization and coordination of specialized and responsible clerical functions.
- Basic methods and techniques of organization and planning.
- Work effectively with youth.
- Compose correspondence independently.
- Strong communications skills in both verbal and written styles.
- Apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports.
- Lead with strong program management skills.
- Work independently and illustrate a high degree of accountability.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Positive attitude and disposition.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications and
- TB, Fingerprints, & Background clearance.
- Bilingual/Multicultural Skills: Fluency in a second language and/or experience working with diverse youth populations, specifically Spanish.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present.
All employees working directly with children at all Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica are required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
