GENERAL SUMMARY
Laboratory Managers -Chemsistry are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a laboratory. They ensure that all testing and analysis is performed according to established protocols, and they may also be involved in developing new procedures or techniques as well as training staff on how to perform their jobs more effectively.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees.
- Keeps supplies stocked by determining inventory level.
- identifies informational needs to manage medical laboratory information systems.
- Plan and oversee the laboratory's budget, including purchases of equipment and supplies.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the safety of laboratory personnel and the quality of lab results.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and time-management abilities.
- Provide guidance and direction to individuals while also ensuring that everyone stays focused on meeting deadlines and completing projects on time.
- Adheres to specimen preparation procedures.
- Implements new programs, tests, methods, and instrumentation.
- Maintains medical laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
- Establishes quality standards to maintain medical laboratory equipment performance.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and other staff.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the operation of the laboratory.
- Ensure that the laboratory meets all applicable safety regulations.
- Train new employees in the use of lab equipment and procedures.
- Perform various tests and analyses using lab equipment, as needed.
- Prepare reports on the results of tests and analyses conducted in the laboratory.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- License and certification as required by state.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five years of experience working in a clinical laboratory.
A minimum of 3 years experience as a lab manager.
