POSITION: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

CLASSIFICATION: SALARY / EXEMPT

REPORT TO: AVP, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

DIRECT REPORTS: NONE – INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR

SALARY RANGE:  $70,000 to $78,000 DOE


PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for developing new business for the credit union and nurturing existing relationships with key contacts at Federal Agencies, Sharp HealthCare and City of Carlsbad and other Select Employee Groups (SEGs), to create brand awareness and increase market growth for the credit union.      

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES, INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Division of Work
  • New Member Recruitment/Account Opening – 50% / Business Development presentations – 25% / SEG Relations – 25%   
  • Responsible for generating new credit union memberships and loans.  
  • Participate in SEG events throughout the year, make presentations to potential members and follow-up with key contacts after meetings    
  • Work with existing SEGs to keep them informed about upcoming credit union activities and promotions    
  • Coordinate branch and non-executive staff appearances within FOM   
  • Provide material/photos of community events to Marketing for promotional purposes   
  • Leverage social media as a way to generate potential leads and activities among SEGs   
  • Strategize ways to penetrate specific areas within SEG community, identify segment contacts or leads and maintain the relationship       
  • Keep abreast of current products, procedures, and services to efficiently cross-sell at each opportunity.    
  • Identify member needs, associate need with products and accounts and treat every member encounter as an opportunity to expand our services   
  • Stay current on all lending and membership requirements - meet monthly growth goals, as established by Management      
  • Complete business development back-office work accurately, providing efficient member service 
  • Prepare appropriately for presentations and complete event or meeting reporting accurately   
  • Establish and maintain priorities and meet established deadlines and keep management apprised of business development activities   
  • Process and track member leads and referrals provided to lending and branch teams     
  • Provide/promote new membership leads/prospects. Follow established new accounts referral procedures. Follow-up to ensure member satisfaction. 
  • Track and report individual results. Provide data on events and attendees and prospects submitted   
  • Maintain positive and professional brand image at all times, follow front line dress code process while on Business Development events.
  • Exercise decision making abilities on partnerships, purchases and sponsorships, with the intent to maintain a strong partner relationship
  • Review incoming Sponsorship and Donations requests in dual BD Leadership  
  • Provide and promote loan leads/referrals, interview potential members, input loan applications, review credit report for potential cross-sell opportunities, refer all inputted loans to an approving loan officer, follow-up with our loan team to ensure members’ needs are satisfied.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with branch and loan team.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Credit Union.
Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of high school diploma or general education degree (GED). Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Marketing preferred.
  • Commercial awareness – Excellent presentation skills and proven initiative and sales skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow policies and government regulations related to financial institutions
  • Self-motivated and ability to be motivated by targets - ability to motivate and positively influence others for maximum cooperation
  • Effective interpersonal people skills, including excellent communication skills, including active listening, and providing clear direction
  • Requires the ability to communicate courteously and professionally, both in writing and verbally. 
  • Detail oriented, well organized and ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Display a high level of flexibility and adaptability to support changing demands
  • Computer proficiency required Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Various Credit Union systems experience preferred.
  • Up to 50% of travel may be required and ability to work from remote locations

PAY RANGE: $70,000-$78,000 - DOE
