Summary:
The J Summer Day Camp program is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Camp runs 11 weeks, June 3- August 16, providing activities that help campers Play, Connect, and Grow throughout each camp day: swimming, arts/crafts, climbing, team building, sports, and much more. The J is currently hiring Camp staff for both Camp locations, Creve Coeur, and Chesterfield. All camp staff must attend mandatory staff orientation on May 28 – June 2.
Duties include:
- Supervising campers, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Maintaining accurate attendance records.
- Attending mandatory weekly staff meetings and required training.
- Administering first aid as needed.
- Engage with campers at all times, plan and lead activities in specialty areas based on the age of campers (K-6th grade). Guide group/individual campers to participate successfully in all camp programs.
- Create lesson plans for all activities and review them with the camp director during staff training.
- Assist all campers and staff on proper use of equipment and behavior when in specialty areas.
- Care for the physical and emotional well-being of campers.
- Keep records of all participants to help them progress from beginner to advanced levels.
- Assist the Director with camp programming.
- Care for and check equipment regularly and alert the Director of any repairs needed or when supplies need to be ordered.
- Always keep the supply storage area clean.
- Provide quality customer service at all times and recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving.
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Follow and enforce all JCC and Day Camp rules and regulations
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 18 years of age by the start of camp.
- Current college students or college graduates are preferred.
- Previous camp or childcare experience prefered.
- Ability to teach assigned specialty area is required.
- Auditory, visual, ambulatory, cognitive, communications and physical ability to complete major tasks at camp is required.
- Ability to relate to and communicate with one’s peer group, parents, as well as to campers’ age and skill levels is required.
- Ability to provide guidance, supervision, and engage with children in an enthusiastic manner is required.
- Ability to teach an activity.
- Ability to assist campers in emergency situations; including fire, evacuation, illness or injury is required.
- Good character, integrity and adaptability are necessary.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self control are necessary.
- Judaic experiences preferred or a willingness to learn.
- Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification is required for certain camps (training provided if necessary).
- Note that some camps require successful registration on the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry as a condition of employment. If required, this registration must be maintained in good standing for continued employment.
