Job Summary

The Staff I, Camp Program position is responsible for providing a fun and positive learning environment for camp program participants.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years of age or older. 
  • Have or obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within four (4) weeks of hire.

The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.

Preferred but not required:

  • Direct experience working with children, preferably in a camp setting. 
  • Experience in a variety of sports.

  • Ensure the safety of participants by enforcing camp regulations.
  • Participate in camp activities such as swimming and games. 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of daily camp activities, sports, and games.
  • Encourage respect for other participants, personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and parents. 
  • Assist in leading camp activities with an energetic and positive attitude.
  • Handle any discipline issues that arise appropriately and inform the supervisor.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Learn new activities and tasks; accept and adapt to change. 
  • Maintain good relations with supervisors, campers, parents, and staff.
  • Manage difficult situations when needed, such as injury, illness, and disruption. 
  • Exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity; accept guidance willingly.

Working Conditions and Aptitudes

  • Duties are performed indoors and outdoors, including working in inclement weather and extreme temperatures. 
  • Duties primarily performed in a public setting, requiring constant interaction with a variety of people.
  • Work effectively with crowds, uncooperative participants during difficult situations, emergency response, and periods of continuous demand.
  • Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on department needs.
  • This position is ineligible for remote work. Essential duties cannot be completed without being physically present.

Physical Requirements

  • Equal or less than 25% | Focus on a computer screen. 
  • Equal or less than 50% | Sitting. 
  • Equal or less than 75% | Standing, walking, bending, and other physical exertion. 
  • Equal or less than 50% | Pushing, pulling, and kneeling. 
  • Equal or less than 50% | Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Salary Description
$14.42 - $18.03 per hour
