Summary
Responsible for all aspects of Produce Department operations and profitability.
Understand and actively support Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by greeting each customer with a smile and offering assistance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Properly merchandise the produce department which includes, stocking and rotating product.
Building displays to promote sale items and new items.
Responsible for ordering products and effectively managing inventory to control shrink and keep the sales floor properly stocked.
Follow the financial budget as set forth by the store director by managing inventory, pricing, labor and shrink. Complete weekly CTO (Contribution to Overhead Spreadsheet).
Maintain proper sanitation of the department on the sales floor and in the cooler, following MN food safety guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide supervision, consistent training, and leadership for Produce employees to ensure excellent customer service and team productivity. Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, feedback, and praise. Participate in probationary and annual employee performance reviews.
Financial Responsibilities: Responsible for meeting the financial budget as set forth by the store director by managing inventory, pricing, billing, labor, and shrink.
Inventory: Monitor sales to efficiently order, merchandise, and rotate products. Ensure freshness, wholesomeness, and consistency of product. Take and document accurate product inventory.
Pricing: Monitor costs and maintain accurate pricing and labelling, work with vendors and suppliers on deals, displays, product quality, and credits.
Billing: Ensure accurate billing for special orders and catering jobs.
Labor: Schedule staff to meet production and customer service needs. Keep accurate employee time records. Monitor department sales per hour and payroll adjusting as needed to meet budget goals.
Shrink: Manage shrink through effective employee training, product rotation, and accurate receiving.
Other Duties
Maintain a positive attitude and provide excellent customer service.
Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company equipment, resources and image.
Assist in other departments and with overall store management when needed.
Attend and participate in company meetings and events.
Other duties as assigned.
Department Development
Stay current with industry trends and evolving customer tastes and needs by introducing and implementing new foods, recipes, and ideas.
Attend company planning and strategy meetings, plan and participate in special sales and events.
Develop employees’ skills, knowledge, and abilities to reach department and store objectives.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience: Two (2) years retail experience required.
MN Food Manager Certification Required, may be obtained after hire.
Must be able to work both independently and as a team member, be an effective leader
Must have solid problem solving skills and excellent decision making capabilities, to ensure Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience for customers and coworkers.
Ability to prioritize and efficiently perform duties.
Must be skilled in basic math.
Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must have an interest in food and promoting Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience for customers and coworkers.
Windows operating system computer skills, including Word, Excel and Internet experience required.
Must be willing to learn the characteristics and qualities of the products and services Mackenthun's offers.
Communication Requirements
Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.
Must understand and display proficiency in resolving conflict through leadership and discussion.
Understand how and when to motivate using praise and proper correction.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate a consistent message through proper use of strong business and moral ethics that support Mackenthun’s vision and commitment to our employees and customers.
Physical Demands
Constant standing/walking/hearing and seeing for long periods of time.
Frequent bending at waist, reaching with hands and arms, above shoulders/below waist, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs., pulling or pushing up to 2000 lbs. with use of pallet jack.
This position requires close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception and color vision.
Training
Training provided on current Produce Department Standards and Procedures including UNFI intranet system, ordering equipment, time and attendance system, personal safety and harassment prevention.
Ongoing Management and Leadership training required.

Work Environment
Must be able to work with and around machine noise, in hot and cold temperatures, on terrazzo flooring in a smoke-free facility in a multifaceted and fast paced environment.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
