JOB SUMMARY

The Northeast Territory Sales Representative is responsible for maintaining / increasing sales volume with existing and new accounts by selling, promoting, and marketing The Plant Company’s Proven Winners Leafjoy brand portfolio of products to independent garden centers, hardware co-ops, distributors, and various other prospective customers. Position coordinates with the customer service and production teams to provide high quality services to the customer, and to continuously recognize new sales opportunities. The ideal candidate will be motivated to win, eager to build relationships, able to work independently, and play a key role as a winning team member. Accountable for executing assigned sales goals and sales plans within the designated sales territory. This position must be based in New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, or New Jersey.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 


New Business Development (75% of role)

· Manage account/opportunity strategy from lead generation and qualification to develop solutions and securing the win.

· Travel throughout assigned territory to call on customers to make sales pitches, solicit orders, build strong rapport with customers, understand customer objectives and develop long-term business strategies. 

· Excellent prospecting abilities with a “Hunter” mentality, working persistently to establish, maintain, and grow new accounts in the territory.

· Lead and implement a strategy for penetrating competitively held target accounts.

· Works toward increasing sales growth in the territory at an established rate determined by Director of Sales.

· Participate and attend industry and customer trade shows and events to cultivate customer relationships, promote products, and maximize selling opportunities.


Account Management (25% of role)

· Develop and maintain strong relationships with current dealer accounts and grow existing business within assigned territory.

· Communication and presentation of sales and promotional vehicles including but not limited to price sheets, pricing promotions, display programs, bundle promotions, close out promotions, and new product and/or brand launches.

· Develops and maintains comprehensive technical knowledge of company products, applications, features, advantages, and benefits.

· Secure and communicate the industry comparative analysis and market intelligence such as the company's position in relation to competitive products, quality, sales tactics and pricing.

· Act as cross-functional liaison in efforts to resolve customer matters.

· Conduct training and educational events at customer locations.  


Other Duties as Assigned

· Achieve quarterly and annual territory sales goals. Assess sales performance according to KPIs.

· Ability to develop customer and area-specific marketing/sales growth plans.

· Collaborate with sales representatives from different territories to share best practices and support a cohesive team-based collaborative sales approach.

· Report on regional sales results (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually).

· Must be capable of traveling extensively, including driving, or flying at least 2-3 days a week, up to 80% of the time.


EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS:

· Self-motivated, able to work independently with outlined guidelines.

· Sales and marketing process knowledge - motivation for sales growth, increased market share, and win rate.

· Ability to build and maintain business relationships with clients.

· Effective critical thinking and decision-making skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to demonstrate strong math competency and analytical skills related to the business.

· Creative thinking to develop & propose alternative solutions when faced with obstacles. 

· Efficient time management skills and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete work while traveling.

· Thorough knowledge of territory, market, and clients.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

· Familiarity and experience with CRM tools, Salesforce experience preferred. 

· Organized with attention to detail.

· Ability to follow up both internally and externally with customers within deadlines.

· Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

· Five years of outside sales experience required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to travel daily and spend extended time in a vehicle.

· Valid driver’s license and no major driving violations.

· Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
