Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are currently searching for a part-time Small Group Training Instructor. The Small Group Training Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging strength and condition workouts for participants of varying fitness levels. This role requires motivation, education, and the ability to foster a supportive training environment. Candidates must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The target starting pay range is $25-$27 per hour, depending on qualifications. Plus, District employees receive facility privileges.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Lead dynamic and effective small group training sessions tailored to participants' fitness levels.
Coach and motivate participants through strength and conditioning-focused workouts.
Educate class participants on correct form and alternate moves during class.
Teach assigned classes on time and take ownership of covering classes with an appropriate substitute when absent.
Prepare the fitness studio for class and restore the space to its original state after teaching.
Attend staff meetings and stay updated on Park District policies and procedures.
Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's) and maintain certification(s).
Be familiar with District policies and procedures and develop the ability to make decisions within District regulations.
Due to the needs of the District, evening and weekend hours will be required.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Fitness Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, or Executive Director.
Assist in emergency situations and adhere to all safety protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current group exercise instructor certification from AFAA, ACE, or other nationally accredited organizations is required.
Must have a current CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days.
Previous teaching experience is preferred.
Must be customer service oriented, have a pleasant demeanor and possess a cooperative attitude.
Must possess a high level of energy, social skills, and enthusiasm.
Must be reliable and display consistent attendance and work ethic. Must be punctual and professional.
Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for coordination of work, safety, and in emergency situations as needed.
Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly. Must demonstrate good judgment and discretion.
Must be able to abide by District policies and procedures.
This position involves standing, squatting, kneeling, crouching, balancing and lifting. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds. Must be able to use hands for coordination of work, safety, and handling of equipment. Must be able to move freely throughout the facility.
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Small Group Training Instructor position.
