Position Summary

The Engineering Lab Technician will provide support for Engineering and manufacturing such as setup completed products or subassemblies for testing. Runs the product through a series of operational steps to verify performance. Performs troubleshooting and sometimes corrects product deficiencies. Provides corrective action information to assembly personnel and/or Engineering.


 

Essential Job Functions

  • The Engineering Lab Technician will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:
  • Test’s performance of product for electrical, mechanical and air movement functionality and records test data
  • Tests motors to meet UL and “PMI” design
  • Designs and repairs special test equipment or fixtures for inspection or production
  • Evaluates competitive products as required by engineering
  • Monitors and performs tests as required on life test units
  • Prepares units for electrical or air movement functionality to be sent to UL or AMCA for evaluation and approval
  • Interfaces with engineering in the design or improvement of new product
  • Prepares test reports for engineering evaluation
  • Translates owners’ manuals and product packaging to Spanish
  • Answers technical questions from customers
  • Monitor’s calibration dates and tests equipment or arranges for calibration as required per UL
  • Assist assembly line staff in product testing
  • Coordinate with Quality Control regarding the acceptance of received parts
  • Reading assembly drawings and scales, protractors, and other measuring instruments to check location or parts in the assembly
  • Time the functions of the appliance to ANSI standards and records data
  • Conduct ANSI product lab audits
  • Interpret product specifications in a strict manner and report problems to QA Engineer or supervisor
  • Safely install products in a test position, including installation of venting system
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all safety procedures
  • Regular attendance is essential
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; some college coursework preferred
  • Basic math skills
  • Must have 1 year of manufacturing experience
  • Four years’ experience in testing of electrical, gas, and CFM or HVAC
  • Ability to safely handle gas connections and use a ladder with good balance and vision
  • Ability to write, read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate and ratio
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal      with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and a team player
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Satisfactorily meeting job performance expectations for current position
  • Ability to multitask and consistently meet deadlines
  • Must have excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of PC’s and web hosted applications preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
