Job Summary

Under the direction of the Pastor, this person is responsible for facilitating the worship life of the parish community by coordinating and providing a quality liturgical experience which celebrates and strengthens the membership’s journey of faith. This is a full time position.


Ministerial Character

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at St. Joseph Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.


Essential Job Duties

· As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Joseph Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.

· Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.

· Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in spiritual growth opportunities, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.

· Work with the pastor to ensure that all participants are aware of Church protocol including maintaining an environment of respect and solemnity at all liturgical celebrations.

· Work with the Pastor to ensure that the liturgical programs and the music utilized is in accordance with the practices of the Roman Catholic Church. 

Specific Tasks Associated with this Position

· Prepare the church set-up for weekend Masses and all other special liturgy occasions, including getting the priest/lector binders ready, refilling candles, and other items in support of the liturgy.

· Attend all Liturgy meetings to determine parish liturgical policy and to assist in the liturgy planning process and seasonal church environment.

· Creates clergy schedule for Masses.

· Organizes and makes available a weekly Mass binder with Universal Prayers, Announcements, and Orders of Service for Baptisms, blessings, etc.

· Oversee weekends, holy days, and Christmas and Easter Masses to ensure everything runs smoothly.

· Coordinate with the Director of Faith Formation for regular confirmations, First

Holy Communions, and any special liturgies.

· Coordinate rites and liturgical services with the Faith Formation team.

· Assists the Pastor planning the celebration of major liturgical seasons - (Advent, Lent, Holy Week, etc.), including coordinating Reconciliation/Penance Services during Advent and Lenten seasons and Healing Mass.

· Coordinate with the Chancery for any special liturgy.

· Maintain open communications with all liturgical ministry coordinators and help provide training as necessary.  Create instruction manuals for each of the ministries. 

· Oversee infant Baptism paperwork, including preparing for and scheduling Deacons for Baptisms and classes.

· Work with the homebound ministers and parochial vicar to ensure care for the homebound.

· Recruit and ensure scheduling of all liturgical ministers through Ministry Scheduler Pro, including the Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, ushers, sacristans, and greeters. 

· Ensure care of flower/plants and sacristy care.

· Oversee and coordinate the Altar Server Program.

· Coordinates the cleaning of liturgical vestments and all other liturgical items. 

· For wedding liturgies, meets with couples to plan the liturgy, compiles materials for the liturgy, assists with wedding rehearsals and wedding ceremony. 

· For funerals, meets with families, plans readings and music from pre-selected lists, executes scripts and worship aids, and arranges for liturgical ministers. Communicates with funeral homes as needed. 

· Prepare the list of the deceased for All Souls Day.

· Provides for the proper seasonal decoration and environment for the church.

· Conduct rehearsal for School Masses.

· Maintains inventory of liturgical supplies. 

· Develop a hospitality ministry for Sundays and special feast days.

· Attends staff meetings.

· Oversee and program the Carillon bell system.

· Oversee the audio and technical systems in the church and work with the team that records Masses to ensure proper recording and posting onto the parish website.

· Performs any other tasks as deemed necessary or assigned by the Pastor.

Supervisory Responsibilities 

This position requires the supervision and training of all liturgical ministers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

· Skill in managing details. 

· Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.

· Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

· Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.

· Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

· Ability to follow instructions in verbal or written format.

· Ability to effectively use standard office communication technology.

· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

· Ability to coordinate and supervise volunteers. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Trainings:

· Bachelor's Degree preferred.

· Training in Theology or Liturgy is a plus.  

Experience:

· Two (2) years of related full-time, wage-earning experience.

Language:

· English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)

· Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred but not required.

Catholic Requirement:

· Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Licenses/Certifications:

· Valid Texas driver’s license.

· Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions:

· All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church. 

· The Parish is an at-will employer.

· All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.

· Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.

· Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.

· Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. 

· Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.

· May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations.

· Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
