Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates nursing care of all shifts.
- Defines, interprets and evaluates nursing practices.
- Assists with developing policies and procedures, assists with distributing information to staff members of changes or additions in polices or procedures.
- Evaluates routines, activities and personnel on all shifts.
- Coordinates comprehensive assessments, MDS completion, patient/elder staffing and care planning.
- Works with Social Services for follow up on any patient/elder or family concerns.
- Establishes and attends unit meetings on a regular basis.
- Recommends staffing patterns to DON.
- Oversees unit orientation of new employees. Consults with DON if retraining of staff is necessary.
- Works with Nurses to monitor staffing patterns to ensure that regulatory and patient needs are being met.
- Supervises and directs activities of staff, reinforces In-service training and ensure that staff are aware of any new procedures.
- Completes performance evaluations of unit staff.
- Ensures continuity of care.
- Reviews Physician orders and ensure care plans are updated.
- Coordinates and ensures that assignments sheets and care plans are up to date.
- Meets regularly with DON and peer to ensure that consistency between units is maintained.
- Maintains programs and systems of care in compliance with State and Federal Regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to operate medical equipment as need arises and In-service staff on use.
- Oversees collection of data for Quality Assurance Program and ensure follow up with corrections as needed.
- Monitor staff and procedures for proper Infection Control.
- Familiar with the full scope of the MDS Reimbursement processes including CAAS and RUGS, as it pertains to skilled nursing facilities. Assist with completion of MDS process.
- Responds to unit emergencies.
- Assure patient/elder assessments are being done with appropriate follow up.
- Monitor patient/elder diagnostic information.
- Coordinate TD screening and monitoring.
- Attends stand up meetings, supervisory meetings as well as general staff meetings as scheduled.
- Continues to keep current with standard accepted Nursing Practice, long term and rehabilitation trends, clinical practice and supervisory skill.
- Maintain a positive and cohesive working relationship with all departments.
- Supportive of Nursing Home Administration.
- Assists with scheduling of Nurses and CNA’s.
- Maintains on-call rotation.
- May preform as a nurse on the floor.
Supervisory Responsibility
The nurse manager supervises the employees on their assigned unit.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as lifting up to 50 pounds and supporting patients.
Required Education and Experience
· Current Registered Nursing License in the state of Wisconsin.
· Two or more years of experience in a nursing home setting.
