POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting operations, overseeing a team of four accounting staff, and ensuring a smooth month-end close process. This role requires strong leadership, a hands-on approach to financial management, and the ability to drive efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
The position is remote with qualified candidates residing in Houston, TX or surrounding area.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial & Accounting Management
· Oversee the daily operations of the accounting team (4 staff members), ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions.
· Manage the financial reporting process, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
· Lead the month-end and year-end close process for three main business entities, ensuring timely completion and accuracy.
· Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
· Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
Leadership & Team Oversight
· Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to the accounting team to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
· Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and support career development within the team.
· Foster a collaborative and productive remote work environment.
Financial Planning & Compliance
· Work closely with the CAO/Director of Finance & Accounting to support financial strategy, forecasting, and budgeting.
· Assist in audits, tax filings, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and healthcare industry regulations.
Process Improvement & Technology
· Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency in accounting operations.
· Support system implementations and upgrades for financial software and ERP solutions.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize financial workflows and reporting structures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA or CMA preferred (or pursuing certification within 24 months)
- 5+ years of accounting/financial management experience, preferably within healthcare, technology, or SaaS industries.
- Prior experience managing a small accounting team (remote team management is a plus).
SKILL QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Syft, or similar ERP systems).
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead and collaborate in a remote environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
