Location: 525 W. 2nd Avenue, Spokane, WA 99201
Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Pay: $20.00/hour (Days) | $20.50/hour (Overnight)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. This role is part of our 5 week rotating on call team and will occasionally need to work other shifts with little notice.

Our shelter provides more than just a roof over the heads of young people in need. We offer a place where they can find hope, support, and a fresh start. Many of our youth have faced hardships such as homelessness, economic instability, and emotional trauma. As a Shelter Support Staff member, your empathy, kindness, and understanding will be crucial in their journey towards stability and growth.
What You’ll Do:
As a Day Shelter Staff member, you will be essential in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for youth in need. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing Direct Support: Welcome and assist youth with respect and compassion, maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment.
- Client Intake and Documentation: Conduct intakes for new youth, complete necessary documentation, and ensure all services are logged accurately.
- Meal and Hygiene Support: Assist in meal preparation, hygiene product distribution, and keeping the shelter clean.
- Client Interaction & Case Support: Monitor activities, provide guidance, and collaborate with case management to support youth needing resources and care.
- Volunteer Training: Help onboard and train new volunteers, interns, and staff, ensuring they are prepared to serve our youth effectively.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all necessary procedures to maintain safety and compliance, including USDA food safety guidelines and shelter regulations.

Required Education and Experience:
? High School Diploma or GED/HSEC
? One (1) year of experience working directly with children or two (2) years of related education
Preferred Education and Experience:
? Experience working with high-risk youth
? Experience with time management
? Experience with being self-sufficient and working independently
Required Licensing and Certifications: (can be obtained after hire)
? CPR/First Aid
? Bloodborne Pathogens
? Food Handler Permit
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
? Must obtain a TB test before employment begins, or produce results of a negative TB test administered no earlier than 8 months before the hire date.
? Valid Driver’s License
? Must be able to pass Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) background check
Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications:
? Must be at least 21 years of age according to the DCYF Licensing Requirement
