OPPORTUNITY
AlpHa Measurement Solutions is experiencing aggressive growth through a global platform consolidation and recognizes a need to strengthen its product development capabilities to meet increased demand and support continued growth. We have an immediate need for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our R&D team.
AlpHa Measurement Solutions’ R&D and NPD functions are critical to our company’s success. The team is responsible for developing and commercializing new analytical sensors and instrumentation, leading conceptualization, research, design, prototype development, testing, and production launch, as well as supporting the product lifecycle through troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives. Our R&D and Product Development teams are currently comprised of talented individuals with advanced degrees in the fields of chemistry, electrochemistry, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
Our privately held company has over 100 years of liquid sensing experience, is growing, and currently employs 230 team members in Houston Texas and 140 in Shanghai China. We need a savvy electrical and firmware designer who wants to be a part of a strengthening R&D team, who is self-motivated to advance the company and priority initiatives, and is capable of technical product leadership, project management, and leveraging technology throughout our business.
Our global headquarters is conveniently located in Houston at the southwest intersection of I-69 and Sam Houston Tollway, just north of Sugar Land.
This individual will report directly to the Sr. Director of Product Engineering.
Classification: Salaried, Exempt, Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and as required to maintain business momentum.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Electrical Design Engineer will design, develop, and test embedded systems that integrate hardware and software for sensor applications. The Engineer is responsible for conceptualizing product designs, designing and developing circuit schematics, creating printed circuit board layouts, and developing required firmware. This role requires expertise in electrical engineering principles, microcontroller programming, and system-level debugging to deliver reliable and efficient solutions that meet project requirements. The engineer will also design and implement methods for testing and validating new designs and products. Additionally, they will support customers and the Quality Control (QC) Department by establishing testing protocols and assisting in root cause analysis and general troubleshooting of products.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop embedded systems, including schematic capture, minor PCB layout, and component selection.
- Write, test, and debug firmware in C, C++, or other programming languages for microcontrollers and microprocessors (e.g., TI, ARM, PIC, AVR, STM32).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, and systems engineers) to integrate hardware and software components.
- Perform system-level testing and validation to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software integration issues using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
- Optimize embedded systems for power efficiency, speed, and resource constraints.
- Document designs, code, and processes in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance product capabilities.
- Support prototyping, manufacturing, and production phases as needed.
- Assist in obtaining applicable product compliance certifications.
- Occasionally interface with customer accounts via email and telephone.
- Conduct and evaluate research to support new product development and product improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in embedded systems design and development.
Strong proficiency in programming embedded systems using C/C++ , Python, or JavaScript
Hands-on experience with microcontroller/microprocessor architectures TI -MSP430, PIC, ARM M series, PIC, ESP32.
Expertise in circuit design, PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCAD), and hardware debugging.
Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, or Ethernet.
Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal programming.
Experience with sensor integration, signal processing, or control systems is a plus.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Experience with software design using LabVIEW or equivalent development tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
