The Organization
Francophone Charter School of Oakland is a French immersion charter school that opened its doors in 2015. Our mission is to provide a dual-immersion curriculum to a diverse community of students and to develop bilingual and bi-literate global citizens who are open minded and who value intellectual curiosity, personal integrity and creativity.
Summary of Position
Educators at Francophone Charter School of Oakland must meet all requirements for employment set forth in applicable provisions of law, including Education Code Section 47605(1).
The qualifications of teachers to be employed in Francophone Charter School of Oakland are designed to ensure students meet the educational goals outlined in the Charter. Teachers receive training in and adopt and implement the curricular and pedagogical approaches of the Charter.
Required knowledge, skills, and duties include:
- Knowledge of child cognitive development and subject matter, including California Common Core State Standards and subject-specific frameworks
- Bi-lingual and bi-literate in both French and English (except for English-only positions)
- Knowledge of assessments
- Knowledge of effective language immersion teaching practices
- Ability to analyze and use qualitative and quantitative student academic performance data to guide classroom practice
- Ability and willingness to reflect and improve on performance
- Demonstrated interest in and ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community
The professional environment at Francophone is highly collaborative. Teachers work together each Wednesday in learning communities engaged in problem-solving, data analysis, knowledge sharing, program development, and mutual support. The teaching staff, administrative staff and other school employees work as a team to further the mission and success of the school. Communication processes have been developed so that concerns can be addressed in a timely and respectful manner. Supporting a working space that feels creative and safe for all employees is a high priority at Francophone and this requires the collective effort of all employees and community members.
Additional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience preferred but not required
- California Teaching Certification preferred
