SUMMARY: The Master Craftsman is a valuable member of the Hardwoods team who has extensive experience and well-developed skills in designing, building and finishing complex wood products by demonstrating exceptional proficiency in using both hand tools and advanced woodworking machinery. The Master Craftsman supports the team by handling various woodworking tasks in the cabinet making process like joinery, fit, wood surface preparation, finish and fixtures/clamping. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Support the team by handling various woodworking tasks.

· Accurately measure, cut, and shape wood using a variety of hand tools and power machinery like saws, planers, routers and sanders. 

· Apply finishes like stains, lacquers and varnishes to achieve desired aesthetic. 

· Perform fine sanding and hand-finishing to achieve a smooth, high-quality surface. 

· Train and guide other woodworking Team Members on proper techniques and safety procedures. 

· Oversee the quality of work on complex projects and identify areas for improvement. 

· Provide expert advice on process setups to achieve top quality design considerations. 

· Collaborate with the team on manufacturing fabrication, prototype builds, and display cuts. 

· Ensure the highest quality of craftsmanship in every piece produced. 

· Exhibits regular and predictable attendance.

· Maintains clean and orderly work area.

· Assures safe practices are implemented and followed.

· Adheres to Vandor’s values, principles, and policies as published in the Vandor Team Member Handbook.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities but will often oversee projects and mentor other woodworkers.

· Has a keen understanding of woodworking techniques, methods and tools involved in the layout and construction of high-end custom cabinetry.

· Skilled use of hand tools and expertise in operating woodworking machinery like table saws, band saws, lathes, routers, and sanders. 

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. 

· Must be mechanically inclined and like to work with your hands. 

· Ability to communicate with others well when focusing on training. 

· Mathematical Skills - above average mathematical skills are needed to demonstrate precise measurements. 

· Must be able to communicate effectively and work well both independently and as a team. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· At least 5 years of experience in fine woodworking, cabinet making or carpentry required. 

· High School diploma or GED required. 

· Trade School graduate is preferred but not required. 

· Experience with non-wood materials is a plus. 

· Previous funeral service and manufacturing experience are preferred. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

· Has the ability to read, comprehend and write the English language as it relates to safety, job responsibilities and other essential communication.

· Possesses exceptional verbal and written communication skills. 

· Adapt at reading blueprints and interpreting intricate designs.
