Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Technician will serve on the property staff as a team member who strives for the highest standard of safety, cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and attractiveness of the YMCA buildings and grounds. The incumbent performs a variety of duties in support of the maintenance and repair of Y buildings, facilities, and grounds; performs a variety of semi-skilled duties to include mechanical systems operation, preventive maintenance, general repairs, basic construction, and ability to operate a variety of hand power and shop tools. The incumbent is a team player who is able to lead staff, and demonstrates strong organizational, verbal, interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving, leadership and communication skills. Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Learn operation of repair for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, fire prevention/alarm systems, swimming pool filtration and chemical administration systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair and cleaning of the fitness equipment.
- Perform facility opening and closing including mechanical system start up and shut down.
- Perform organization and care of the mechanical/maintenance room and storage areas environments including equipment and tools.
- Perform trash removal.
- Perform Painting.
- Perform Event set-ups and break downs including chairs and tables.
- When required, substitute and/or assist in all other property staff job duties such as perform floor care including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, ceiling care including vent ceiling tile repair and replacement, and light fixture/bulb repair and replacement, cleaning and sanitation of restroom and locker room including showers, partitions, toilets, urinals, sinks, counters, and lockers, and maintain and clean YMCA grounds, parking lots, and sidewalk care including trash removal, grass cutting, minor tree cutting, snow removal, and ice-melt application.
- Handle all situations, problems, issues and/or complaints in a positive and professional manner and inform supervisor.
- Serve on the on-call rotation; if necessary, the incumbent must be able to report to the facility to resolve or repair issues.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings.
- Participate in trainings and workshops
Experience and Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- The equivalent of one (1)-year of experience in repair and maintenance of large facilities.
- Must have custodial experience and be able to perform all custodial duties/functions.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the performance of building maintenance.
- Safe operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment common to the fields of plumbing, carpentry and related building trades.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Able to read a tape measure; must have basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
Ability to:
- Operate and maintain specialized tools used in carpentry, plumbing and related building trades.
- Change a light bulb; patch and paint a wall; hang a bulletin board; install dispensers; as well as other small maintenancerepairs.
- Learn how to test the pools; specifically, an understanding of pool chemistry and learn how to take pool chemistry readings.
- Exercise independent judgment.
- Read and interpret manuals, specifications, drawings and blueprints.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Learn and apply new information or new skills.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

- Must be able to wear a full-face respirator and pass a basic physical and respirator fit test.
- Be trainable in the areas of HVAC, electric, plumbing, and carpentry.
Trainings & Certifications:
- Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings prior to assignment to initial position.
- Must be C.P.O. certified within the first 3 months.
- Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-dayso of employment.
- Must complete Darkness to Light and Listen First Training within the first 90-days of employment.
- Must hold CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications or successfully complete no later than 30-days after employment begins.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain. Work environment is informal, team-oriented, having both routine and variable tasks with variable pace and pressure.
Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized hand and power tools and equipment; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; verbally communicate to exchange information, capable o lift and carry up to 50 pounds. See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to operate vehicles and equipment and observe work in progress, distinguish color and read computer screens and printed documents. Noise level will vary; it could be very loud at times.
