Position Summary:

The Optical Engineer will function in an interdisciplinary team, will troubleshoot, design, and conduct experiments on various optical based materials and systems which includes data collection and preparation of reports on findings. This position will also support the functions of the R&D – Optical Department to meet the requirements of the relevant ISO 9001:2015 standards based on the quality objectives established by Top Management.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, design and conduct experiments on UV-cured materials and systems, vacuum deposition systems, interferometers and optical measurement systems, and optical handling and cleaning.
  • Collect data and prepare reports on experiments and results.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team with engineers and scientists to develop new optical systems and technologies.
  • Provide technical support to other team members as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and lab facilities.
  • Meet required ISO 9001:2015 standards and necessary training based on the relevant Quality Objectives.
Requirements

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in Optical Engineering or equivalent field.
  • 3+ years of experience in optical lab set-up, display characterization, interferometers, and optical measurement systems, and optical handling and cleaning.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting, designing, and conducting experiments, collecting data, and preparing reports.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
  • Must be able to demonstrate out-of-box thinking for unique problems and develop concepts into products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or equivalent field.
  • 5+ years of detailed experience working in a product design environment.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills; and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity/Experience with sequential and non-sequential programs like Zemax, Code V, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to solve problems, multi-task and be a hands-on leader.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Travel: Negligible.

Physical Demands: Frequently required to sit, speak, hear, see, and perform repetitive motion (data entry). Occasionally required to lift or carry (10 lb. minimum). Reasonable accommodations will be made available if applicable.
