The Head Sports Performance Coach will work directly with the student-athletes to develop all physical qualities such as speed, strength, power, agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular/muscular endurance, including nutritional and drug-free restorative considerations to improve athletic performance and prevent injury in a given sport. The Head Sports Performance Coach will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Athletics.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise strength training & conditioning sessions as well as other training events.
- Design comprehensive strength and condition programs for each athletic team.
- Teach and execute proper technique of fundamental Olympic lifts and drills.
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of training facilities.
- Help maintain the Club ’64 scheduled sessions for each athletic team.
- Research technology and training philosophies to help give SMWC student-athletes a competitive advantage.
- Teach basic fitness seminars to the coaches and student-athletes about nutrition, flexibility, and supplementation.
- Develop a standard nutrition plan including macro/micronutrients for the student-athletes.
- Design introductory-level training videos on how to use Club ’64 equipment properly.
- Occasionally attend athletic events to support the student-athletes.
- Develop a standard nutrition plan including macro/micronutrients for the student-athletes.
- Coach and mentor the club powerlifting team.
- Perform other related duties and tasks as appropriately assigned by the Associate Vice President for Athletics.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrated abilities to work effectively in a small college setting and ability to balance student athlete needs within a student development prospective
Supervision:
Will supervise student-athletes & student workers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health & Wellness, Kinesiology or related field.
- Acceptance to the Master of Leadership Development program at SMWC.
- 1-2 years of sports performance experience while working with intercollegiate athletic teams.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID.
- AED/CPR/First Aid certification.
The reviewing process of candidates will begin mid-April. This position will start on or after July 1, 2025.
