Job Summary:

The Engineering Document Custodian & CAD Designer – Contractor supports the engineering and operational functions with document revision, document control, document storage, parts list and bill of materials creation, reconciliation, and modification services.


Responsibilities:

  • Creates engineering documents under the direction of engineering staff including but not limited to architectural drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring harness specifications, part models/drawings, assembly models/drawings based on existing designs, sketches, photos and markups.
  • Executes document storage, document revision, document association, and part management strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Connects test plans, reports, concept drawings, models, and similar, and other documents with parts and assemblies within the Product Life Cycle (PLM) environment.
  • Reviews for quality and facilitates reviews for technical accuracy/operational feasibility documents, BOMs, and parts lists as a member of a multi-functional engineering change management process.
  • Process documentation changes including but not limited to: Updating title blocks, drawing notes, CAD documents (SolidWorks, Altium, AutoCAD, etc.), wiring harnesses, hardware, work instructions, manufacturing specifications etc. and captures data related to the eco process, i.e. reason for change, effectivity date, disposition of existing inventory etc. as directed.
  • Reconciles Bills of Materials, Part Revision, and Document Revision status within company PLM and PDM systems.
  • Aligns the workflow state, version, and revision of working files with master bill of materials data.
  • Identifies inefficiencies within the PLM/PDM data management environment, part family definition, part documentation strategies and makes recommendations to improve accuracy, quality, and efficiency of documentation.
  • Assists in the development and refinement of document control policies.
  • Drafts, validates, and implements procedures to support document control, engineering change management, balancing practical needs, user experience/ease of use, and procedural rigor.
  • Facilitates and promotes use of the engineering change process and documentation control tools within the engineering organization through coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Contributes to team growth by completing projects in a timely manner.

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of (5) years of experience in a documentation control/management role.
  • Minimum of (5) years CAD experience as a designer or similar role with exposure to mechanical and/or electrical system components where work output required creating, modifying, and building parts, assemblies, and bills of materials for a system with complexity.
  • Highly proficient in the use of a 3D CAD system and a 2D CAD System (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD preferred). Candidates should demonstrate proficiency through examples or hold a recognized certification.
  • Proficient in the use of Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools within the same environment.
  • Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting to internal teams.

  • Will be placed in a comfortable office environment for approximately 80% of the work time.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.

  • Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds/and or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.
