POSITION SUMMARY: Consistent with direction provided by the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for front-line, hands-on responsibility for leading, planning, organizing, and directing manufacturing operations and staff of assigned business unit. Works closely with department leads focusing on people, safety, quality, and timeliness productivity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct supervision and guidance to front-line production leaders and associates; plans, organizes, directs, and actively participates in daily operations activities with the team of operators.
- Lead, coach, and develop production personnel, as well as act as a technical resource/SME.
- Provides leadership, engagement, and motivation to attain high levels of employee achievement and retention.
- Achieve manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and reviewing job results; hire, train, coach, counsel, and discipline employees if needed along with facilitate performance evaluations, merit increases, and development plans; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate & communicate production schedule to fulfill customer order demands including managing vacation/time off, overtime and weekend work to maintain production levels and ensure coverage of equipment; ensure timekeeping and payroll are completed timely and accurately for staff.
- Serves as a Merchants Metals safety champion in every activity. Proactively identifies potentially unsafe situations and immediately resolves and/or raises awareness to the appropriate individual(s) ensuring PPE, LOTO, machine guarding, environmental permits, forklifts, cranes, power tools, hot work permits, working from heights, electrical safety, spill, and incidence response.
- Coordinate with the maintenance department for the preventive and corrective maintenance of the equipment in charge.
- Participates in development, implementation, and support of continuous improvement methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems, improve product quality, and increase revenue in your service area (Six sigma, smart teams, kaizen, lean manufacturing).
Requirements
NECESSARY SKILLS, BACKGROUND & COMPENTENCIES:
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production role necessary.
- 3+ years of direct employee supervision or lead responsibilities preferred.
- Knowledge in manufacturing process, Lean Manufacturing, 5's and collaboration in Kaizen events.
- Bilingual English & Spanish is desirable.
- Good verbal and oral communication skills necessary.
- Proficient in use of computer systems and programs (MS Office)
- Ability to make independent, effective decisions.
- Strong leadership skills combined with good interpersonal skills increase your ability to influence, negotiate and build strong relationships and teamwork.
- Must be capable of standing for extended periods of time, frequent bending/stooping, and lifting up to 60 pounds.
- Must be comfortable with working in a non-air-conditioned plant and outside for hours at a time; the noise level in the plant is moderate to high. Hearing protection is provided and required.
- Must be comfortable and able to work effectively while exposed to fumes, airborne particles, high volume decibels, extreme hot & cold environments, moving mechanical parts and vibrations on a regular basis.
- Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 5pm – 5am Nights, some weekends required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree completed in engineering or operations management preferred.
- Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
