Punch Press Operator II - Weekend Shift
Description

OVERVIEW

Cadrex is searching for a Punch Press Operator II to produce parts from metal using a punch press, a computer numeric controlled (CNC) piece of equipment that makes precision cuts and punches into metal. Punch Operators monitor machines making sure they are working at full capacity, stocked with needed materials, and well-maintained.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Measure completed work to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, and/or rulers
  • Examine completed work for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws
  • Read work orders/production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting lines, or dimensions and tolerances
  • Load work into machine
  • Set-up and start machine, monitor operations, and record operational data
  • Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools
  • Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades, or other fixtures in rams or beds of machines, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools
  • Clean and lubricate machines
  • Position, align, and secure work against fixtures or stops on machine beds or on dies
  • Perform periodic checks on output
  • Perform typical machine shop operations; set up and run, de-bur
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designer 
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures
  • Perform quality inspection/checks per quality documentation/control plan (including documentation of results)
  • Uphold site efficiency standards 
  • Learn and demonstrate continuous improvement for site Safety and Quality standards and procedures
  • Meet the standards of the site attendance policy
  • Assist in other work areas as assigned
  • Run plasma cutter
  • Use tapping head
  • Set up new special tools (wheel-ribs)
  • Set-up multi-tools
  • Visually check sheet lifter and cups
  • Remove die base/reinstall
  • Work completely independently without supervision
  • Ability to trouble shoot and resolve issues in assigned work center
  • Meet or exceed company PPM level standards by consistently producing quality work
  • Retain knowledge from each job
  • Fully understand workmanship standards for both Advanced Laser and customers
  • Achieve and maintain any certifications required in the work area
  • Cross trained in multiple workstations
  • Knowledge in all work centers with the ability to work/run machines in multiple work centers 
  • Assist in preventative maintenance of the machines
Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years of related experience
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and work orders 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

  •  Friday-Sunday, 5:45 am-6:15 pm

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
