WithersRavenel is recruiting a Project Engineer I to join our expanding and innovative Design + Planning Practice Area!

We are looking for a Project Engineer I to join our multidisciplinary 30+ member Design+Planning team. This is a hybrid role and is based out of our downtown Raleigh, NC office. We define a hybrid work arrangement as one where employees and supervisors collaborate to establish an in- and out-of-office schedule that “works” for all involved.


As a key technical team member, a Project Engineer I supports Project Managers (PMs) in budgeting, scheduling, and client communication while leading the technical aspects of project meetings. Responsibilities include managing internal project tasks, reviewing data, analyzing compliance, and developing design concepts and detailed drawings per industry standards. The role requires researching and applying relevant codes, exercising sound judgment in technical decisions, and overseeing quality control processes. Additionally, this position involves mentoring staff, utilizing technology for design, and ensuring project deliverables align with scope, budget, and schedule. Client and business development responsibilities include participating in community events, supporting marketing efforts, and identifying opportunities to expand client relationships.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or field of expertise or equivalent experience 
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional in the appropriate field of expertise-PE, PLA, AICP, etc.    
  • 4+ years of experience in appropriate field of expertise  
  • Self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented with the ability to work independently?   
  • Handle multiple tasks under pressure and prioritize responsibilities  
  • Exhibit leadership in planning and/or design concepts and methods and challenge convention  
  • Ability to successfully manage all internal aspects of projects/project tasks  
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail?  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills  
  • Willingness to mentor and lead technical staff  
  • Energetic, flexible, confident, and forward thinking  
  • Additional technical certifications, preferred  
  • AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D, Geopak, and/or graphic software experience  
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications
