Westminster College seeks an Instructional Designer to design and develop courses in its online degree program. This position creates engaging, high-quality courses that meet industry standards and accreditation requirements for distance education. This position engages in broad pedagogical discourse and guides the advancement of solid instructional design practices across our curriculum. The scope of this position impacts the quality of own work and the work of others, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and compliance. This position will be on-campus and does not have a supervisory responsibility.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

· Complete a revolving workload of course design and development projects 

· Collaborate with faculty as subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop online courses

· Recommend instructional strategies, technologies, and media applications for effective web-based instruction and identified teaching and learning goals

· Manage the faculty course peer review process for all online program courses

· Mentor faculty in their skill development of course design, development, effective pedagogy, and course assessment

· Use assessment data to revise curriculum and instructional strategies

· Keep abreast of emerging instructional design innovations and trends

· Train faculty and other instructional staff in various design and development topics. Examples include, but are not limited to, effective online teaching, learning objective alignment, course map creation, learning technologies


Job Requirements:

Education: Master’s degree or higher in education, curriculum and instruction or a relevant area of study from an accredited institution plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Experience: Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills:

· Apply teaching and learning strategies to promote active learning, evidence-based practices, critical thinking, and the use of technology to enhance student success

· Evaluate assessment data and teaching strategies and recommend improvements in curriculum, teaching methods, and instructional materials

· Establish and maintain positive working relationships with teachers, principals, and other administrators

· Communicate technical and pedagogical information to audiences with varying levels of familiarity

· Complete detailed tasks with accuracy and according to deliverables

· Organize and manage multiple priorities and provide timely responses to communications

· Expertise, or working knowledge of, learning management systems, lecture capture solutions, video editing, learning design software

· Self-motivation to create high-quality products 

· Work independently and as a contributing member of a team

· Demonstrate professional behavior

· Intellectual curiosity
