The Health Center Manager is responsible for the overall operations, administration, and performance of the health center. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, efficient service delivery, and adherence to all regulatory standards. The Health Center Manager leads and supports the health center staff, manages resources, and works collaboratively with medical and administrative teams to achieve organizational productivity, quality and strategic goals. The Health Center Manager ensures adherence to operational budget, health & safety regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the health center, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
- Draft and implement staffing schedules to ensure support staff coverage at all hours of operation. Acquire coverage during staffing shortages to ensure efficient operations.
- Manage medical and behavioral health provider clinic schedules in the Electronic Medical Records system.
- Lead daily clinic huddle to ensure efficiency in day-to-day patient-centered care.
- Implement and monitor policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a high standard of patient care.
- In collaboration with the Facilities department, manage facility maintenance and ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients and staff.
- Oversee laboratory vendor on site to ensure CLIA compliance and aligned operational and customer service standards.
Staff Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary team, including clinical, administrative, and support staff (Medical Assistants, Patient Service Representatives, Leads, etc.).
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and develop professional growth plans for staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet patient needs, including recruitment, onboarding, and scheduling.
- Support with resolution of employee relations issues.
- Provide training and competency assessments for all new hires to ensure effective patient care delivery.
- Provide ongoing training, re-education and development as required.
Patient Care and Experience:
- Ensure the delivery of patient-centered care that is compassionate, respectful, and responsive to individual needs.
- Implement procedures to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor patient satisfaction and address any concerns or complaints in a timely manner.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in patient experience and outcomes.
Financial and Resource Management:
- In collaboration with the Finance department and Director of Health Center Operations, develop and manage the health center’s budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
- Monitor financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and productivity.
- Oversee inventory management, including ordering and maintaining vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies and equipment.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.
- Complete mandatory reporting of communicable diseases to the Department of Public Health and other agencies as required.
- In collaboration with the Quality department and the Director of Health Center Operations, monitor and report on quality metrics, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Participate in the organization’s Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
- PCMH/HRSA/ ETC.
Community Engagement and Collaboration:
- In collaboration with Outreach team, build and maintain relationships with community organizations, partners, vendors and stakeholders.
- Represent the health center at community events and meetings to promote services and programs.
- Collaborate with external healthcare providers and agencies to coordinate patient care and referrals.
Strategic Planning and Improvement:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic goals and initiatives for the health center.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead projects to enhance service delivery.
- Participate in professional development opportunities that cover topics including healthcare operations, finance, risk management, etc.
- Stay informed about healthcare trends and best practices to drive innovation and excellence.
- Attends meetings as required.

- Bachelor's degree in healthcare-related field -OR- High School diploma or equivalent with Medical
- Assistant training and 3+ years of experience -OR- Equivalent of 5+ years of experience in healthcare operations setting with proven lead/supervisory responsibilities.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- CPR certification preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency preferred.
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records systems.
- Experience in high-volume ambulatory care settings.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of health insurance (Medicaid, Medicare, HMO, PPO, etc.).
