Position Overview: The Outpatient Recovery Mentor/Peer Support Specialist (CRM/PSS) is an essential part of our multi-disciplinary team. Through life experiences and demonstration of self-sufficiency, the CRM/PSS provides expertise that professional training cannot replicate. They act as role models and provide essential expertise and consultation to clients and the entire team. Services include social and emotional support, frequently coupled with informal and formal community resources which contribute to the client’s ability to engage in and direct their own recovery process.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support services in various settings, including self-help groups, drop-in centers, outreach services, system navigation, coordination, screenings, and more.
  • Assist clients in navigating barriers, provide linkage to services, and engage in community outreach/harm reduction activities.
  • Promote a culture where each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
  • Facilitate independence and community interdependence opportunities for clients, modeling behavior to inspire hope and share life experiences.
  • Support clients in identifying their needs for professional support and services and develop a collaborative plan to integrate these needs into a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Provide practical help, mentoring, advocacy, coordination, side-by-side individualized support, coaching, problem-solving, and direct assistance.
  • Support connections to community-based, mutual self-help groups and consult with community agencies and organizations.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and document all encounters with clients according to agency policies.
  • Participate in staff organizational meetings and perform other duties as required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of local behavioral health, substance abuse, and social services delivery systems.
  • Knowledge of approaches and skills used to promote resiliency, client empowerment, and effective peer support strategies.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of an Addictions and Behavioral Health Division certified peer support specialist training program within four months from the date of hire. Training will be provided to the employee by Rimrock Trails.
  • Ability to assist clients in developing perspectives that promote resiliency and facilitate recovery.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license (or the ability to obtain) and eligibility to drive in accordance with agency policy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds occasionally and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Some travel required.
