Position Summary: This position supports the work of the Y a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Stride Program Classroom Aide will develop, organize, and implement a high quality Stride Program. The Stride program is a day program for Adult Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
The Stride Classroom Aide provides educational and program support for the Stride Program. The Classroom Aide presents a professional personal appearance and demeanor with Stride students, family members, and the general public while abiding by the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Whittier.
Essential Functions:
- Staff shall be at least 21 years of age
- Supervise employees and/or volunteers.
- Direct supervision of clients during participation in or presence at potentially dangerous activities or areas in the day program and during community outings.
- Training in universal precautions may be provided at the program site or staff may attend.
- Emergency procedures
- Mandated reporting requirements for dependent adult and elder abuse, as required by Welfare and Institutions Code section 15630(b).
- Create and Implement Lesson Plans.
- Implement IPP
- Have a High School Diploma
- Be computer literate
- Have excellent people and public relations skills
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Demonstrate time management and organizational skills.
Classroom Functions:
- Assists the Stride Teacher in preparing materials and classroom
- Assists the Stride Teacher in organizing and implementing an instructional/academic component of the Stride Program
- Maintains a clean and safe learning environment
- Assists the Stride teacher in maintain complete and accurate files on each student
- Responds to inquiries and requests not requiring the attention of the Stride teacher
- Leads a group of 5-6 Stride students in the community integration training and transportation, use of community resources, shopping and vocational exploration.
- Supervises and assists the Stride students in all areas of the program.
- Attends all required YMCA training meetings
- Attends agreed upon training and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competencies specific to serving adults with developmental disabilities.

Qualifications:
- At least 25 years of age
- Within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory staff, Working with program volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, Blood borne Pathogens.
- Communicate with licensing as required by applicable laws and regulations
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
