This position, which reports to the Accounting Supervisor, establishes and maintains accounting, tax and other financial records and prepares reports for one or more divisions of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute, Ltd. to ensure the accurate and timely recording and reporting of financial activity and control over organization’s general ledger accounts. The number of divisions assigned depends on the nature, size and scope of their financial activity.
Responsibilities
- Accurate and adequately supported journal entries.
- Prepares and enters accurate, adequately supported, well documented and referenced standard and adjusting journal entries and maintains detail support to ensure an accurate general ledger.
- Assists in entering the annual budget journal entries into the organization’s accounting software system.
- Accurate monthly financial statements and reports issued on a timely basis.
- Prepares assigned monthly financial statement and reports on a timely basis in order to provide management with the tool for reviewing financial performance.
- Thorough analysis of assigned financial reports in order to ensure accuracy and explain significant or unusual transactions, as well as, variations from prior results and / or budgeted amounts.
- Accurate and adequately supported work papers, reconciliations and analyses of general ledger accounts.
- Reconciles assigned cash accounts on a daily basis and investigates and resolves discrepancies on a timely basis to ensure an accurate general ledger.
- Analyzes other assigned balance sheet general ledger accounts (e.g. interdivision receivables and payables, fixed assets, etc.) on a monthly basis and investigates and resolves discrepancies on a timely basis to ensure an accurate general ledger.
- Assist in the development of the annual budget by completing assigned budget schedules and / or analyses of select income statement accounts
- Reconciles loan accounts and prepares and issues monthly loan invoices.
- Support audit and year end closing process.
- Compiles assigned year end audit work papers as required in order to assist in facilitating the annual external audit process.
- Assists as required in facilitating any other external audits (e.g. financialinstitution audits, IRS, IDOR, etc.).
- Assists in the completion of year end projections in order to ensure appropriate profit distributions and minimize any tax liability.
- Support payroll and accounts payable process.
- Review the bi-weekly payroll reports and record the related payroll journal entries on a per payroll basis.
- Reconcile all payroll related accounts (e.g. payroll liability) on a monthly basis and investigates and resolves any discrepancies in order to ensure an accurate general ledger.
- Analyzes assigned income statement accounts (e.g. outside salaries, legal and professional fees, etc.) on a monthly basis to ensure proper coding of payables. Record adjusting journal entries on a timely basis in order to ensure an accurate general ledger and related financial reports.
- Implementation of accounting procedures.
- Assists in the review and implementation of accounting procedures by providing input into the development of new or revision of existing procedures to ensure uniformity and accuracy throughout the organization.
- Special projects as assigned
- Complete special projects as assigned which may include, but is not limited to, assisting in the transition of responsibilities from external consultants, completion of governmental or industry surveys, annual insurance renewal, requests from management, cross training and assisting in new employee orientation.
- Preparation of standard and adjusting journal entries.
- Preparation of monthly and year end work papers, reconciliations and analyses.
- Preparation of monthly loan invoices.
- Initiation of internal or external contact in order to attain required financial information.
- Issuing internal and external financial reports.
- Resolving unusual accounting issues.
- Providing information to external auditors.
- Problems in attaining required financial information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least 2 years Accounting experience.
- Health Care Accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Familiar with corporate tax laws and other governmental rules and regulations.
- Strong familiarity with a personal computer and the Windows environment,
- Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Access and Word) and the internet.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experienced with mid-level accounting software systems.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exposure to a change and growth-oriented environment.
- Proactive in the development of partnerships and relationships with peers, co-workers, consultants and other internal or external customers.
Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
