Maintenance Electrical Supervisor

Texas Biomed is searching for a Maintenance Electrical Supervisor!


This critical position will supervise personnel and maintain the institute electrical distribution system and will oversee other general facility maintenance performed by facility mechanics. Make repairs to other electrical systems throughout the facility. Assist in the design, development, review and implementation of new and remodel projects. 


The Role:

• Supervise/lead and coordinate the workload of all electricians and assigned personnel. 

• Plan work schedules, assign tasks, provide priorities, maintain the integrated work management system (currently FM:Systems).

• Supervise maintenance programs and projects performed in-house; meet deadlines and budgets.

• Plan and layout work projects from wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, blueprints and/or verbal instructions. Understand control sequences of electrical equipment as read from blueprints.

• Install, troubleshoot and repair fire and security alarm systems. Perform annual test and inspection of all fire alarm panels.

• Coordinate and execute repairs and preventive maintenance on all indoor and outdoor electrical systems.

• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as mega ohmmeters, voltmeters, and ammeters. Recording voltage and ammeter readings to ensure proper installation, operation, compatibility and safety of systems. Document readings on work orders.

• Coordinate and execute repair of power to all Main Power Distribution Systems and Panel Boards.

• Coordinate and execute repair on all indoor and outdoor facility lighting including signs, parking areas and security lighting.

• Conform to the City of San Antonio and the National Electric Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Institute of Health (NIH), US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) and appropriate animal welfare 

• Repair or replace generators, fans, blowers, lamps, ballasts and components of major equipment. 

• Install and/or repair electrical services for construction projects such as labs, power upgrades, electrical equipment upgrades, office spaces, parking lots, outdoor lighting, etc.

• Respond to power failures and operate emergency back-up systems.

• Coordinate and execute repairs on electrical systems for various types of equipment to include, but not limited to: chillers, roof top HVAC units, condensers, pumps, vacuum pumps, generators, compressors, freezers, refrigerators, computer stations, cubicles and others.

• Locate and mark electrical underground wiring for various projects.

• Provide 24/7 on-call emergency service on a rotating basis with other maintenance personnel to ensure system reliability and integrity of operations.

• Emergency generators inspection test, operate and repair.

• Monitor and record input and output amps, frequency, A/C and D/C voltage readings daily.


Our Ideal Candidate:

Requires a high school diploma or GED; prefers 30 hours from an accredited college/university with coursework in electrical trades 

Requires at least 10 years’ experience with 5 as a Journeyman and 5 in commercial electrical work as a Journeyman

Strong background in electrical service work, electrical troubleshooting and variable frequency drive installation with setup

Knowledgeable of National Electric Code (NEC) and electrical safety 

Proven excellent supervisory, leadership, and mentoring skills

Prefer medium voltage experience between 1 - 35 kV

Ability to use a Building Automation System and computerized Lighting Controls is required

Requires current Journeyman’s Texas Electrician’s License required and Master’s preferred

Requires Texas Operators Driver’s License with good driving record
