Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (6:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Job Summary: Responsible for conducting exercises, implementing treatment plans and evaluating cardiac rehab patients following a recent cardiac event, cardiac surgery or qualifying cardiac diagnosis. Patient care includes leading group exercises, educating lifestyle changes and cardiac disease, monitoring vitals often during sessions and documentation. Other requirements include equipment sanitation, stocking/restocking and assisting in ECG monitoring.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains positive relationships with physicians whose practice involves potential clients, thus promoting and encouraging utilization of the service available as an adjunct to their medical treatment of their patients.
- Maintains a working relationship and open communication with other William Newton Hospital departments.
- Assists in coordinating programs and integrating ideas from various sources into a single effective rehabilitation plan.
- Requires cognitive skills for critical thinking and problem solving.
- Assists in developing new educational and rehabilitative approaches, and encourage creativity of staff members.
- Must have well developed written and verbal interpersonal communication and human relation skills for assessing teaching effectiveness and knowledge of the subject matter.
- Must possess the ability to select and utilize communication equipment and knowledge and involvement with service agencies in the rehab process.
- Must possess a thorough understanding in diagnostic and functional exercise testing and in administering and supervising exercise therapy. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
- Provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department “Policies and Procedures.
- Must be able to operate machines, tools, equipment such as cardiac telemetry, recumbent bike, treadmill, stethoscope, doppler and sphygmomanometer.

- Complies with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Complete annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, complete work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Performs department in-services.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital as well as the mission statement of the department.
- Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the Grievance process as required.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Valid Kansas LPN license
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- At least two years’ experience working with patients experiencing acute or post myocardial infarction, preferred.
- Trained in reading/interpreting telemetry (OJT eligible)
