SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Sr. Manager of Volunteer Engagement (MVE) is a DYNAMIC, ENGAGING, ENERGETIC person that is responsible to ensure that the Volunteer Engagement Department staff are effectively mobilizing community members in partnership with Springs Rescue Mission staff toward the accomplishment of the SRM vision “to see lives transformed and filled with hope as our community works together to fight homelessness, poverty and addiction” as well as support resource needs of internal departments. Role has overall responsibility to plan and implement a program that provides for the screening, selection and recruitment of volunteers and serves as a liaison with religious, civic, academic institutions, and other community groups in coordinating volunteer's efforts. In addition, this role is responsible for compiling and maintaining statistical information concerning volunteer programs and determining their effectiveness. The person in this role will have 2 main components to fulfill for the organization and its mission. The first component is to, through relationships and presentation, the Sr. Manager of Engagement utilizes “moves management” skills to recruit and retain volunteers from churches and community partners like businesses, civic groups, and more. In alignment with that, the MVE will work extensively with the Advancement/Development department to develop strategies for enhancing church and community support by identifying a portfolio of church and community partners for relationship management. The second component of this role is that the MVE is responsible for actively enlists, training, and scheduling/aligning volunteers to fulfill the needs of various SRM departments, with an emphasis on Programs. Both areas require effective deployment of Volunteer resources.


Requirements

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the oversight of, to include establishment of and improvement of Volunteer Engagement Department strategies and supervises the execution of those strategies guiding staff to established metrics and department goals.
  • Work cross-functionally throughout the organization, volunteer department and Advancement/Development team to execute on a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy to expand the delivery of SRM mission and services; translate strategies into actions that impact the volunteers’ experiences both as community advocates for SRM and as internal labor support/resources.  
  • Acts as a leader and champion of Volunteer services both within the organization and the local community. 
  • Ensures volunteer policies and related documents are current, legal, and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations with required communications aligning with SRM Mission/Vision
  • Responsible for ensuring the effective training of all personnel that manage volunteers
  • Oversee selection and retention processes for individual and group volunteers. 
  • Engages in regular-on-ones with team and/or each direct report staff for individual coaching and development opportunities.  
  • On occasion, the person in this role may perform the duties of direct report staff while these staff are on leave for PTO, Soul Care Retreats, or the like.  
  • Be knowledgeable, and incorporate best practices in volunteer management to maximize impact and engagement; continuously educate staff on best practices to drive for excellence in volunteer engagement
  • Understand/become knowledgeable of all aspects of SRM culture, operations, and programs to most effectively recruit, train and engage volunteers to help meet the SRM mission goals
  • Effective usage of Volunteer Data System to maintain and improve volunteer database as well as provide routine status reports on quantity and quality of volunteers, including number of volunteers, number of volunteer hours, and impact of contributions to the mission of SRM
  • Promote meaningful recognition opportunities for volunteers in partnership with the Advancement Development Team
  • Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization. 
  • Survey management and staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance. 
  • Maintain Volunteer Service Descriptions for each volunteer assignment with an emphasis on simplifying this area as much as possible for convenience of both department and SRM management.
  • Make announcements at various internal and/or external events and meetings to advertise volunteer opportunities, spotlight volunteer participation, or promote volunteering within the chapter in general. 
  • Performs other related projects as agreed upon.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for SRM Volunteer Engagement
  • Continually evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate.
  • Responsible for continuity of message for volunteer orientation, training and engagement including the development of marketing and training materials, to include collaborating with other appropriate staff to ensure up-to-date volunteer information is on the organization website and any printed materials. 
  • Along with the Volunteer Engagement Manager, serves as the key staff person in the planning and implementation of the organization’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Day. 
  • Provides support and oversight for intervention and assistance with volunteer issues for Volunteer Engagement Manager/Team
  • Along with Volunteer Engagement Manager, assist in the planning and execution of the SRM picnic and any other volunteer-oriented activities/recognition events.
  • Attends all required meetings and reviews SRM emails regularly.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited university or college required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Marketing or Fund-raising highly desired
  • Two or more years or more years of supervisory experience required
  • Two or more years working with one or more of the following required: volunteers, event planning, social work, development, training, recruitment
  • Previous experience working with homeless, addicted or mentally ill populations; or comparable people-oriented programs ideal
  • Previous non-profit and/or ministry experience highly desired

  • Serve as an advocate for the homeless and raise awareness of the needs and concern for the addicted, and those in poverty, engaging others within their influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of this population in Colorado Springs. 
  • Believes that volunteers are vital to accomplishing the Vision and Mission of Springs Rescue Mission and thus is part of mobilizing the community in the fight against addiction, poverty, and homelessness 
  • Engaging, energetic, extroverted persona with the innate ability to invite and engage others
  • Superior organizational skills, regarding tasks, projects, information, and people simultaneously
  • Self-starter, high degree of initiative and professionalism with good time and resource management skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, articulate and passionate in communicating about the ministry of SRM and in engaging volunteers and staff into action 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable and skilled in public speaking 
  • Excellent and consistent ability to engage across departments and execute well based on effective teamwork.
  • Computer literate, extremely proficient and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Able to work well under pressure of deadlines; must be adaptive and have good critical thinking skills
  • Mature Christian, with a stewardship mindset; able to exhibit discernment and good judgment in alignment with SRM values, purpose, and policies
  • In this role, you may be required to drive on behalf of Springs Rescue Mission utilizing SRM company vehicle and/or your personal vehicle. In accordance with that, a valid driver’s license, current proof of insurance and/or clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years is required. To ensure the safety of our employees and compliance with state and federal law, SRM utilizes ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring where MVR reports may be run randomly to ensure you have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record if utilized as driver.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:


Occasionally = 1%-33%; frequently = 34%-66%; continuously = 67%-100%. 

Will routinely move about the SRM campus, to include but not limited to typical office environment with occasional evening/weekend/outdoor work to involve some local travel, typically within the Greater Colorado Springs area. This is a hybrid position with mixture of work being performed on campus/office environment/community.

Occasionally: must be able to lift to 15 pounds, moving between SRM buildings, bending, stretching

Frequently: carrying, standing, carrying kneeling, reaching, lifting, walking, talking, manual dexterity, climbing of stairs

Continuously: sitting, adequate vision and hearing, good mental condition to withstand consistently medium to high levels of stress

Salary & benefits include the following: $80,000 - $85,000, DOE - This role may have step-progression.
