Job Summary:

The Meat Cutter/Meat Cutter Apprentice reports to the Meat Department Manager and is responsible for finely and precisely cutting our high-quality meats. The Meat Cutter/Meat Cutter Apprentice provides excellent customer service and caters to customers’ requests and preferences, ensuring customer satisfaction.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare various meats and meat products, keeping the Meat case fresh and full
  • Cut, weigh, wrap, and price product
  • Make and use a cut list, control waste, and rotate product
  • Take customer orders and/or special requests; fulfill requests, meeting WCM standards
  • Assist with general Meat Department tasks, including but not limited to: assisting customers at the Meat counter, preparing burgers and marinades, and stocking product
  • Safely and effectively operate equipment such as slicers, saws, grinders, and knives
  • Maintain advanced Meat product knowledge
  • Maintain general sanitation practices, food safety practices, and food storage practices within store and health department standards

Schedule:

The schedule for this position will require shifts from 7am-3pm, 8am-4pm, or 9am-5pm.

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
  • Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
  • Must have weekend and holiday availability

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Show ability to effectively learn all aspects of cutting and portioning (Required to be a Meat Cutter Apprentice)
  • 1+ years meat cutting experience & portioning (Required to be a Meat Cutter)

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, reaching, and operating meat cutting equipment
  • Occasional instances of pushing and pulling carts
  • Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 90 pounds
