Located in Gretna, Nebraska, Vala’s is a family owned and operated fall festival open to the public 45 to 55 days a year and is a treasured fall tradition for many families in the surrounding communities. Vala’s property spans 400+ acres, including over 50 attractions, such as pick-your-own pumpkins, apples, and flowers, and over 25 food locations.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting operations of the family business. This role includes supervising accounting staff, managing accounting records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and preparing financial reports. Responsible for specialized duties, assigned tasks and special projects. All activities are supervised. This position reports to the Accounting Director and is expected to communicate with company management regularly. Work is to be performed in an organized and timely manner with an emphasis on quality. The company has an expectation of a positive attitude and creative thinking in all areas.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accounting responsibilities - daily, weekly, monthly, and annual duties
- Complete timely month-end close and produce financial statement reports for management
- Experience completing monthly bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations
- Monitor bank accounts daily, approve A/P entries and payment outflows
- Maintain weekly reports and update leadership team on cash flow, revenue, key expenses
- Prepare, update and monitor company budget and report to leadership team with insights
- Willing to accept new projects, using analytical tools and skills, to aid with strategic planning
- Work alongside internal accounting staff responsible for accounts payable and billing duties
- Prepare and maintain income tax related schedules, and work with firm’s CPA, as needed
- Prepare monthly sales & use tax returns and annual 1099’s
- Backup role for significant seasonal payroll responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced skills using Excel to process and report information to firm leadership
- Possess polished communication skills and maintain confidentiality in all matters
- Strong understanding of financial statements. Able to read a balance sheet and income statement with ease
- Drive for accuracy and achievement, approach work with a logical plan, and add value to the business
- Curiosity and thirst for knowledge to expand current understanding of accounting topics and related skills
- Able to manage multiple priorities and projects, while providing appropriate level of responsiveness to each
- Experience using a full-featured, mid-market accounting software
- Previous experience in a similar accounting role of 5+ years preferred
- Associates degree or four-year bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
- Accounting system migration or conversion experience is a plus
SCHEDULE AND WORK SETTING:
- Physical setting: Office, In person, Omaha, NE with some situational remote work
- Schedule: Monday to Friday 8AM-5PM, flexible schedule available to employee who can balance the workload.
- Expanded hours up to 72+ hours per week to accommodate the fall busy season, including evenings and weekends
