Description

Oversees the implementation of BGCA and other approved programs as well as the design and evaluation of locally designed programs targeted primary for school age children and/or teens. The P.S. oversees the curriculum development and outcome management of these programs. They ensure proper staffing, training, equipment, and support of all programs in designated Club site.


MAJOR DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (Inclusive, but not limited to): 

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate all programs designed to align with the BGCCI mission and achieve measurable outcomes
  • Assure proper staffing of all programs, including strict attention to ratios for adult supervision as provided by BGCCI
  • Provides positive guidance, discipline and role modeling to members at all times
  • Schedules activities and/or program partners for Club site that provides equitable and consistent participation in all Club activities
  • Designs and implements a compelling and enriching extra-curricular program of field trip activities to provide a “hands-on” educational experience for Club members, with particular emphasis on spring break and summer schedules
  • Promotes and stimulates program participation, recruits new members, and participates in new member orientation process
  • Provides for the safety and health of all Club members, staff, and outside groups through effective use of staff and material resources
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers
  • Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information to members and families
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with BGCCI members, staff and volunteers to interpret and explain program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Maintains regular contact with BGCCI administration with particular emphasis on Unit Director. Has ongoing contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.

External: Maintain contact with other Clubs, vendors, consultants, organizations, parents and general public to achieve program goals and objectives, manage costs, share information and resolve problems.


Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Postsecondary education degree, trade, vocational, apprenticeship, or other equivalent required
  • One year of experience with Boys & Girls Clubs (or similar youth-serving organization)
  • Skills in fostering youth development, through encouragement, engagement, involvement and emotional support
  • Effective interpersonal skills (including oral and written communication) particularly with elementary, middle, and high school aged students. Also, must possess the ability to deal effectively with parents, community leaders, educators, administrators, other staff and volunteers
  • Working knowledge of the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development needs of school aged youth and/or teens
  • Basic computer skills required and familiarity with Microsoft Office and a record keeping/membership database administration preferred
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work with multiple projects concurrently, prioritize workload, and consistently meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative
  • Ability to work well  independently and as a member of teams
  • Positive and professional  attitude and demeanor
  • Valid Iowa State Driver’s License and a clean driving record
  • Spanish language skills highly preferred,  but not required
  • Ability to pass a background  check
